Installed a toytec boss coilovers about 2 weeks ago and been driving on it since. Never really check or asked are my angles okay? I measure from center of wheel to fender 24” so if stock is 22” I have a 2” lift. do I have more or is that sound right?

Cv angles too sharp...should be straighter horizontal.

I'm not sure what the factory measurements are, but if you measured after your previous setup it's probably not accurate. It could have been lifted. Or since the truck is presumably 16 years old the OEM springs may have sagged over the years.

From my calibrated eyeball and knowing that factory CVs are pretty horizontal, it looks like you have more than 2" of lift.

The boot fins are rubbing you can see the clean rings. Which is supposed be bad and I was told they will eventually rupture. I've only seen a few ruptures but it's always been at inner boot near the axle end. Which you can see the tension/compression on it last fold near the axle band.

I would check with someone else that has the same lift and look at their thread measurements and CV angles.

That's a tough one because some pre-2K trucks didn't have flares, then they changed the flares in 2000 and then again in 2001. That combined with age, makes it a hard to get a factor measurement. If yours is also a 99 and he/she has fresh springs (or his axles are horizontal) it should be pretty close. Someone must have a factory measurement somewhere. It's TW after all, I think Toyota comes here for info.

You could estimate the lift from the center of the axle on each side.

There are diff drop kits too that are supposed to help, I may be adding one of those soon. For reference on the wear. I ran 2.5" spacer lift for 100K miles before I replaced the axles today. It's not like the boots will explode tomorrow. I mean probably not. . . Anyway don't loose sleep over it.

    Yah, probably pretty close then.

It should be fine on the trail. If it rips, you will still be functional but might get some damage to the internal joint long term.

I was gonna Lower the coilovers, but as in the angle is it really that steep. It’s really hard to get a right answer I feel

I don’t think there is a right answer.
Ideally you want the more “level” or flat.
Only time will tell, I would run it like it is.
You may never have a problem?

Yea well even at 2inch lift it wouldn’t be “level” correct?

    I’m a bit confused?
I thought you said in the first post you are running 2” lift now?

Anyways, the lower you go the better the angles should get.
I’d measure a stock truck and see where you sit compared to them.

Yes sorry for confusion I “believe” I have a 2inch lift cause I measured my other friends 99 4x4 Tacoma at 22inchs while mine is 24inchs his is stock. And as for level I was saying if you have over stock height the axle can’t be level I would think maybe it can be

Correct, with lift they will not be level.
Even a stock truck is not exactly level.
They can’t as long as the front differential is up higher than the wheel hub.

    4 run, 2 don't
    Overthinking it

Plenty of people have a very similar angle, running a similar lift, with no ill effects

If you're worried, you can either remove a bit of preload on your suspension (slightly lowering it) while gaining back some droop or you can do a diff drop

There are also high angle inner cv boots available

Only thing I'd be wary of are any new vibrations within the next few thousand miles; for this you'll be looking at the ECGS bushing
