I missed that. I really hope it's not a dynamic rope. Even a good 11mm static line is only rated to 20KN. That's 4500 lbs. A dynamic rope is half that and they stretch about 10% which would lead to even less efficiency is the MA system. I can't wait to see this video.

Maybe he plans on using a wakeboard winch. >26 fps and 1200 feet of rope. And it comes with its own motor, no need to tap into a power source.

I seriously can’t believe some of the stuff written here. Eventually this stuff is going to get someone seriously hurt or killed.

Even if you have no understanding of the amount of energy involved, please understand that winch and accessories are rated to perform safely up to those ratings. Unless a life hangs in the balance don’t exceed those ratings. Even then think it through three times before acting.

Killing or injuring folks by rushing to act without thinking isn’t worth it.

 

Using rope, with a breaking strength of what, 1,000 lbs? No matter how many parts you put into your system, on line will eventually bear all the load. Hanging a nearly 5 thousand pound truck on rope. priceless. It's painfully obvious that the OP has never done this, maybe hitch up a couple pulley system, to move logs....

That 10% stretch is at a 1 person load. What the op is intending will probably see closer to 25 - 30% stretch before failure. I've seen how climbing rope is made, with its twist in the strands used to build the braid, and essentially under load you are drawing that twist in the lay of the fibers out. Low stretch rope has individual filaments laid out parallel to each other.

I work for a large power company doing fisheries work in the southeast which puts us into some wet,sticky and remote situations in both mid sized full sized trucks. Both appropriately sized wenches and pulleys are used frequently and I wouldn’t want to be caught without them. You never know what you’re going to run into!

 

Both dynamic and static ropes used in rescue and climbing are the same kernmantle construction. The difference in dynamic vs static is the polymers used to create the individual strands. But, yes, 30% or greater elongation for a dynamic rope at breaking strength should be expected. I was thinking of static elongation when I threw out the 10% figure. lol

 

The lay of the strands in the kern part is significantly different.

Y'all are mathing above my head. All I know is I'll take my actual winch extension rope, 10k winch, some good soft and now shackles, a snatch strap, and some regular straps all rated 2-4x the trucks weight.

Have you seen the YouTube video of that tow company out in Moab has a yellow XJ cut open his snatch rope and why he uses a rope instead of the strap like from ARB. I trust that kind of real world abuse and testing.

 

No, I haven't. Straps are great to distribute/transfer load across their surface area. Straps or more technically called flat or tubular webbing are vulnerable if their edges are cut, then its strength is compromised considerably.
