I was wrong, I have a Lincoln 125 plus. Not sure what the 'plus' means, but I really like it. My bad, not a 250 amp. I have a ? for you. Do you know a source for buying the Budbuilt skids? I'd like to buy the 3 pc. set eventually, but start with the front and go from there. The only place I've found 'em so far is 'metaltech4x4.com', and it looks just a 3 pc set for 797.00.

Do you know of a source to buy the budbuilt skids one at a time? I found the set of 3 on 'metaltech4x4', but just the set for about 770. Any tips, would appreciate it. Need that front skid 1st like yours.

Do you know a source to buy the budbuilt skids one at a time? I see the set of 3 on metaltech's site, but just the set of 3. Also, I'm sort of confused. If I buy the set of 3, says 'front, belly pan, and rear crossmember' one of those covers the t.case?

For anyone on the fence about skids I kinda regret my 4xinnovations purchase, they cost me a good bit of clearance in the front. Don't get me wrong They're incredibly beefy, but they do say they're compatible with a diff drop kit, but manage to sit a solid 1.5" below the diff brackets with my diff drop installed. If I were to buy again I think I'd go with budbuilt since they sit up much tighter and protect the lca cams better.

My plan is to eventually modify them to fit up higher or just diy my own

I thank you, because this helps me make this decision. I've been on the fence. I like the cost of the 4xinnov. and it is a beefy 1/4" at least the front one is, the trans is 3/16 I think. I'm probably going to go with the Budbuilt for the reasons you say. Wondering can we buy them individually, not a set of 3 from somewhere?

Yeah man, just go to budbuilts website and click on 1st Gen taco and it'll have an option to buy individual pieces of armor there

Thx, yup I'm kinda slow when it comes to internetting, lol. The set of 3 from metaltech is a better deal, the 1st plate from Budbuilt direct painted aint cheap.

Thx Poncate, I noticed powdercoated they are quite a bit of money direct. That set of 3 is enticing from metaltech, maybe next on the list when money is available.

I wouldn't bother spending money on powder coating skid plates...that's a lot of extra money to throw at something that's just going to get dinged, scratched and dented. Assuming you need them for their intended purpose.

Much cheaper and more practical to buy them unpainted and primer/rattlecan them yourself

The Budbuilt belly skid is huge and weighs a lot, I've had it for years and only ever put it on once for one trip. Took if off because I needed to access the trans for maintenance and haven't put it back on since. All the trails I've done I've gotten by just fine with an IFS and t-case skid, but if you're going to be doing some big time rock crawling trails then the belly skid is a good idea.

I hear you, would save a lot of money. I just reached out to them to ask how much the skid's weigh. Don't mean to be a pain in the ass, but who made the t.case skid you run? Also, what are your thoughts on the budbuilt rear cross-member skid? I really like how the budbuilt IFS skid works w/the ARB front bumper, so will get one of those I think for sure. Probably direct from them and paint myself, unless I get a wind-fall and can buy the 3 pc. from metal tech. I thank you eon_blue

Yeah, a lot of people poo-poo the diff drops because they "decrease ground clearance" because the skids have to be lower. But I'd take a lower CV angle over a slightly lower clearance any time. It's not like that 1" is ever going to make or brake getting past an obstacle.

I have the SkidRow transfer case skid, 3/16" steel. It's held up well and I've had to get it flattened out once after I bent it up in to the t-case (came down on a rock with the full weight of the truck, not much you can do...it definitely saved my ass though).

The Budbilt belly skid basically protects from the back of the IFS skid all the way down past the t-case (covers the whole transmission). It's a big sheet of metal and a pain in the ass to remove/install if you have to work on the truck. But, it's good protection if you need that kind of protection

Personally I think an IFS skid and t-case skid is enough, the trans doesn't exactly hang low and you'd have to pick a pretty awful line to hit it with something, unless you're crawling boulders in which case a full belly skid is ideal.

Would you think about selling the belly skid?

yeah, I actually have the IFS one too but it's spoken for. I have to run the AP skid because of their bumper. Are you in socal? It would be way too big to ship the belly skid unless a TW express could be arranged.

I would need to make sure I have all the hardware for it still...although that can probably be bought from budbilt but I think it's somewhere in my parts pile
