Ok guys, its getting sketchy again with fire season. Here is an active map so you can see so far we are safe but things can change fast. I'm not going to drive 14 hours if its going to be totally smoked out so I will keep posting updates. Anyone living in the area that can provide real life updates that would be much appreciated.

Put your foot down & make it a 10 hour drive. Boom. No more 14 hour problems!

    Hey fellas!

I’ve been on the fence for about six weeks about the trip. I was really hoping things would be back to normal by now so we didn’t have to “social distance” but it’s not meant to be. Now with the fires & smoke, I’m unfortunately going to have to bail this time around.

Brian, thanks SO much again for organizing the trip. This year has sucked but I’m serious about one day soon trying to get up to your neck of the woods and I hope we can get some other TW peeps to make the trip w/ me!

Have fun and if it’s still a go, you know I’ll be watching the thread for updates/pics all weekend long.

I’m in the same boat as you Mark. I was planning on going but I just got back from an unscheduled trip to UT. With all that’s going on now I’m going to have to bail on the mammoth trip.

I’m down for the ID trip whenever it happens.

Last few days have been ok for part of the day. Minimal smoke in the mornings but tends to fill in. It’s not terrible quality as it has been in past years but it can always change quick. Still worth it IMO, as the winds dictate the smoke, there’s still a chance to get out of the smoke

the fires has gotten a lot better since last time I checked so I am in 100% as long as the shop says my gears are fine tomorrow morning. Had it re geared recently and going in for gear oil change and inspection after first 1,000 miles.

Hope it’s all good for you guys. Have been following this thread but I couldn’t make it to this trip due to work. But I’m headed up to mammoth the day after most of you leave.

Do you know the way up to San Joaquin Ridge? I think that would be a fund trail for everyone but never been up there. Or what else would you suggest? We are doing Laurel early Saturday morning. Sunday is still up in the air .

Yea I’ve done San Joaquin, short but fun, bald mountain is just fun no matter what , nice long dirt road. East side of Crowley lake via sunny slopes and hitting the beaches aT Crowley is rad and fun 4wd and finish out Benton crossing road. Sand Canyon road is a great view of rock creek as your up above it on a bench. But the road may be closed due to the fire that was near there a month ago. Lots of great roads in bishop like the buttermilk’s. Coyote flats out of bishop is by far the coolest spot imo but last time I was up there (August of 2018) it was harder than laurel since there was a ton of wash out but may be easier now. Certainly need clearance and a locker minimum for coyote flats. Out of shady rest there are some fun narrow trails
That are better suited for ohv vehicles but certainly doable in Tacoma’s. The mammoth to June trail is pretty exciting 4wd as well

    Brian,

I am unfortunately going to have bow out on the trip. I'm really bummed because I've been looking forward to this for some time, but my wife is begging me not to go, also because of the smoke. I look forward to next year's run though.

I will be at the campsite very early and my guess is most people will show up sporadically throughout the day friday.
