Home from San Diego. Took my little buddy back so the rest of the family could say goodbye to him. He's all set up at home now. I still need to paint the paw imprint and attach it to the wooden box with his ashes. Also going to have a plaque made for it and get a picture of him framed to finish it off. I miss the little guy.

Lost mine almost exactly a year ago. Got her a similar box and paw print/photo collage. It gets better with time.

    On a lighter note....

The 4Runner drove great too and from San Diego. Coming back I had a book shelf my daughter didn't want in the back as well. Got horrible fucking gas mileage both ways tho. 11.4 going out there on the 2nd tank (2 tanks each way) and 12.6 coming back. I think it's a combination of going up and down the mountains here, the heat, i saw 115 for an extended period driving out there and the wind. It was really bad both ways but worse coming back. Drove into a storm and had pounding rain for a good half hour.

Hoping with the tcase swap and going to part time 4wd will help improve the gas mileage some. We'll see. I don't think there are any issues other than parasitic power loss via the transmission and thru the tcase and front axle.

Yeah. Funny thing is, I get around 16 to 18 during the week, commuting too and from work. That's about a 30 minute drive, at least 20 of on the freeways doing 65 to 80. Oh well, like I said, hopefully the tcase swap improves thing with part time 4wd.

your driving mostly flat ground. once theres a load (like a steep grade) mileage is GONE my tundra actually eeked out 16 MPG on the highway doing 80-90 the whole way.

Looks like that storm i drove thru finally caught up and arrived in Tucson. Started raining here finally. Weather radar shows it was heading east-ish.

Yeah, that's what I figured. The stock 3.73 gearing needs changed I think, even with stock size tires. 4.56 will be better on the grades and help the trans not drop a gear so often.

The steep grades between here and San Diego are at 6%. Pretty steep on the freeway.

ive got 3.93 or something stupid like that. IF i ever need to rebuild the rear diff it'll probably get 4.30 since 33s will probably play better with that when i go to them.. and it should tow a bit better
