Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

So I'm also getting the dead pedal. Mostly when coming out of a turn, or a rolling stop. Any acknowledgement on ovtune's end of this?

I swear I didn't have this issue with 2.0 with the stumble start

 

For the better I would say...
It appeared OVTune made changes to DI and PI intervals because of what this 'ill informed poster' noticed in the data he collected on the 2.0 beta versions.
The poster even displayed data after 2.0 Final release detailing the PI and DI differences between the versions, in which there were significant changes to PI and DI intervals.
I also believe this 'ill informed poster' respectfully acknowledged the changes you made.

Thank you 'ill informed poster' for data collection and also to the developer for analyzing the data and applying those changes.

 

Appeasing a disgruntled customer who is actively alarming many other customers, does not, in and of itself, suggest that said disgruntled customer was correct. It may simply be OVTuning's easiest way of extinguishing a confidence consuming fire.

Here are my 2 cents as someone who is currently "testing" a DC Tundra and trading in my Tacoma if I like it enough.

I made sure to take the taco for a long spirited drive before flashing it back to stock the same day Carvana picked it up.

The handling is surprisingly good, thought I would get a more "loose" or "boaty" feeling but the DC trd off road Tundra handles pretty well for it's size. Power is pretty good, and TOW/HAUL which is their ECT is like having OVTune 1.03 throttle on steroids. Acceleration test put it at 6.7 secs 0-60 while my 93 OCT OVtuned taco was doing 7.7 so it's a decent noticeable difference. MPG has been about 13 but I have been driving it like a maniac, Taco was getting 16 when driving similar, but I would normally get about 18-19mpg on the Taco with lots of highway driving.

Got used to driving the big vehicle surprisingly quick, it's 5 inches wider but feels a lot bigger than that(that's what she said)

Still deciding if I gonna keep it or return it for my Tacoma and just wait for next gen Tundra or slap a Turbo on this truck.

You and the rest of us. I heard twin turbo six and it will share its frame with the new Tacoma but that's about it.

 

Yeah, because early buyers of the updated Tacoma were all stoked. If you weren’t happy, I’d look for a proven performer on your next truck vs jumping in on a first year release of a major overhaul of a proven platform.

 

Figured I’d do a quick post since I’ve been running 2.0 for awhile...

I’ve been on the stock premium thx 2.0 tune for 1400 miles or so. Did a 320 mile round trip over the weekend (from nw Arkansas to Little Rock so mix of hills and flat) and wound up hitting a bit above 22mpg on the way there and a bit above 21mpg on the way back.

The main thing was the shifting was spot on and I kept a fairly constant 75mph there and back.

Overall been very happy with the 2.0 tune.

 

Agreed, that's what is making this decision so hard

I mean I could always trade in if I keep the Tundra but trying to avoid paying the damn state taxes twice in a short amount of time.

 

Well Tacoma is a N/A Atkinson cycle turd. Supposedly tundra is definite FI, so while I’m expecting there to be some bugs for first year, I’m sure Toyota will make it right.
Also the the 3.5 FI is currently in Lexus LS, which leads me to believe Toyota knows what they’re doing. I’m not expecting perfection, but anything is better than Tacoma platform.

 

There is a 99.999999999 percent chance that the next gen Tundra is V6 twin turbo.

Would it be faster to get 2.0 performance with a dump tube tune in VF? Or wait it out here with the regular flash manager?

 

Get the new frontier. I test drove the 2020 and the power train is a dream.

Agreed. That's literally the only reason for the tune. Whatever small bump in power is potatoes in comparison to poor shifting. Like if shift points just relearn over time, the whoooole drama of upgrading ECU and all associated drama with disabling the only thing that protects you on the internet (Anti virus, defender etc) is moot. The juice ain't worth the squeeze. Coupled with the fact you need a note on horseback to get any kind of reply just makes the whole experience worthless. I'm bummed I bought into the hype. I was much happier on stock without the promise of greener pastures, unfortunately once expectations have been set, it's a long hill to recover from. This is 04B04

 

Idk how you guys get this it drives like shit issue. Ive had 4 different tunes and all are way better over stock and all the miles I've put on my truck with ovtune never once have I felt stock tuning or even felt it going back to any form of stock. What tune are you guys running!?
