"Check Vehicle Stability Control System"

Hey guys,

Went offroading this weekend, slammed my front driver tire into a rock and blew the tire. No biggie, but now that whole axle is WAY out of alignment and I've got this fun "Check Vehicle Stability Control System" warning on the dash.

I mean it just looks like the wheel is aggressively out of alignment, so maybe that's all the warning is trying to say? I just want to make sure it's not a more nefarious problem than alignment. What do you guys think?

 

Start with the alignment and see if it goes away. Hope it isn't a wheel speed sensor.

 

In regards to the speed sensor, why do you hope it's not?

 

@splitbolt is this a symptom of zero point calibration

 

Because I'm a lazy cheapass that doesnt want to make sure the sensor is plugged in or possibly spend the benjamin to replace it.

 

Fair enough. I thought there might have been more to it.
I had a speed sensor cut on my '13. Shop charged me about $75 to replace it.

 

Look up zero point calibration here in the forums. Perform the procedure after you get your alignment done.

 

Looks squooshed to me...like a bug being squooshed. Alignment time. Toe is really out. Were you jumping something?

Nope. Just totally missed the big ass rock that my left side was rolling towards, due to not paying enough attention. Hit it at probably < 5mph but it was enough to blow the tire.

 

you bent something and your alignment is so out of spec it is triggering the vehicle stability system. you probably bent a control arm or a tie rod.

 

Guess who's getting a new control arm!

 

Scan the code. C1290 is steering angle sensor zero point malfunction. If that's the code then the warning is due to your new trail alignment. If that's not the code something else is up.

 

I took it to the dealership and they did all their scanning and inspection and whatnot. They said the cam adjustment bolt is completely frozen, so they're just gonna replace that whole arm and all the hardware.
