after looking at the two's maps I just think trailforks is cleaner, as far as function goes IDK.

Depends where you ride. TF inherited a lot of trail data from a company named Skidmap based in Utah, so it is the go to around here. But some friends tell me in CA and some other areas, MTB Project has more up to date maps.

As far as user interface goes though, Trailforks wins by miles.

Really screwed me hard the other day. I don't use it all the time, opened it up in the middle of a trail(have all of NC saved for offline) that I have not ridden much or recently in WNC (no service) at it invited me to subscribe.....:annoyed:

I don't get the popups on my phone, so it all still works for me. I had to seek out the subscription signup.

Hmm, I was not able to really access anything. Then again, my vision was pretty blurry and my sweaty fingers were slipping on the screen after the 1000' climb. In any case, I subscribed just now, $18 a year is very reasonable for the use I get out of it.

So I was reading the whole syncing Strava with Trailforks.

Is it supposed to sync my past rides over to Trailforks now?

Going forward should I record rides with Trailforks Premium or Strava Free?

I don’t use it often either. Hell I only ‘record’ on Strava for 25% of my rides. I looked at it more of a ~$20 donation to a good organization.

I use Garmin for all my rides, which imports to Strava. Really just to track miles year over year. But I'll stick with Strava free as I am not a speedy boi and don't really care about segments.

AZT- San Francisco peaks but we did it backwards. Less gradual uphill and more downhill. Also we parked at 2 different locations so we didnt have to ride back up

Record all my rides and hikes on my Garmin Instinct. Love it.
Not as techy as the Fenix, but I also didn't want my phone on my wrist.

I've put this thing through hell in the past 2 years I've owned it and it still looks new.

I'm conflicted about this. Its pretty cheap but they are also charging for viewing crowd sourced data that they got for free. I have used it occasionally to build routes to view mileage/elevation and twice on new trail systems to find my way around. For finding my way around, it was not up to date and there were plenty of signed trails that did not appear on the app. If I were to be paying for this I would probably be a little pissed at that but as its free I just shrugged my shoulders and continued to ride. If the data only continues to be as good as the people that upload it to them for free then I will take a hard pass.
