The instinct is high on my list. I don’t need all the tech of most any of the gps watches out there. I’ve been using a 1st gen Garmin somethingorother for nearly a decade. Each time the wrist band needs replacing I tell myself I’m going to upgrade. Then I realize a ‘cheap’ gps watch is $200-300 and I order another $8 band. :notsure:

That doesn’t keep me from wanting a new one. Always waffle back and forth between the Garmin and Suunto offerings.

Strava segments kind of bums me out sometimes because I think I'm a speedy boi but then I see that I'm in the slowest 20% :rain: I mainly use it for recording purposes to see how many miles I'm riding too.

    not enough.
Where you are matters. Trailforks is great here in Utah/idaho/colorado/wyoming/arizona/etc. california has mtbproject as king. so...your mileage may vary.

I love it. The battery is great and it's super user friendly. If you don't care about having something with all the latest features, a touch screen, or super modern look, I recommend it. You can monitor so much on it (elevation, distance, HR, view maps, compass, etc.) and it's all really easy to navigate through.
I didn't want something I can reply to texts on, or get calls on, which made this so attractive to me. I can view and read texts and other notifications, and even that is more than I need.
I also like the fact that it looks like a watch.

FWIW, my ladyfriend has the Forerunner 645 and really likes it too, but she says she wishes she got an Instinct after seeing mine. She got the Forerunner to measure her VO2 max and other weird training stuff I don't care about, but she still wishes she got the Instinct.

How’s this for modern look? This thing has been through some shit, and keeps going. Screen is all scratched up, that pink border used to be red, and the latest replacement band is a different shade of black vs the faded watch body.

The battery life isn’t what it once was and takes longer than I’d like to find a signal sometimes. Those are really the only factors that make me consider retiring it.

My wife really likes her forerunner 245, but ends up wearing her Apple Watch more often since she doesn’t really use 90% of the features on the Garmin.

Does anyone here have accident insurance?

I have BCBS, my deductible is $3000. I usually never hit that btw per year 28 and don't get sick too often that I feel need for a doctors visit.
Also the ADoD 50k is cool, but I also have that covered.

So this would really only cover up to $3000 + whatever BCBS doesn't.

I've been seriously thinking of getting the Instinct to record my ride data and to pair it up with a heart rate strap. A few years ago I had a Vivo Active and loved the Garmin connect user interface. I've just been a cheap ass about replacing it.

I just use the Instinct heart rate monitor. Never compared it to anything else but from what research I did pre-purchase, people said it was pretty damn accurate.

Well if my cheap ass ever ends up getting one I'll try it without a strap first.

Home area for free doesn't make sense. I don't need trailforks for my home trails since I know my way around. I'd rather pay for map downloads as needed, like a few bucks to download a region annually or something.

Edit: read the article and i get the logic for the free home area. I still think it's worthless to get free access to an area I frequent and "contribute" to.

Are you just saying that it is more popular in the West (minus California)? I live in Colorado Springs and of the two trail areas I have used it at, it was incorrect.

I agree with this. I would MUCH prefer a fee to download each area/state/etc vs a subscription based format. Or offer the full subscription option and then the free + which gives you the ability to pay to add additional areas.

I'm sure it is just a learning curve and a matter of getting used to.
