Fluid Film is the answer. I have family in upstate New York that have used this product and no rust whatsoever. They apply it twice every year. Every single car manufacturer will have rust if you don’t prevent it from happening. Is not a “Toyota thing.”

One of the big problems is silica deposits on the welds. It'll leave a small island here and there, then they paint the frame, and later on the silica deposit falls off leaving exposed raw steel. You'll notice most of the rusting is at welded seams. They need to sandblast the frame before coating it. But that's time and money.

Take it in once per year and have it shot with grease (the vaseline like stuff. Not sure what the trade name is). It’s the only thing that works. Has to be washed and retreated every year. These one time treatments are crap.

I've had other brand trucks I bought brand new and drove over 12 years in the same conditions and never had a problem.Fords and Chevys never once treated the frame or anything special and didnt have any holes or anything after 12 years of driving those trucks .One was a personal truck and the other was a work truck with no frame issues there entire lives.I'm on my third taco and the frames of these Tacomas look worse after 3 years then my other brand trucks after 10 years. Its definitely worse with Toyota. That and unfortunately I dont have the time or want to crawl under my truck twice a year as you say to spray to keep it from rotting out. I never had to do any of that on my other brand truck. Its definitely a Toyota frame problem. Domestic trucks body panels rot out really bad but the frames at least last. Toyota is the exact opposite, my body looks great but the frames are rot boxes. It's a known Toyota frame issue unfortunately. I wish it werent the case but it is what it is. I tried fluid film once on some sockets in my tool box. I sprayed and thought wow this stuff stinks but it might work. Less then 2 weeks later and my sockets were getting rusty again so FF didnt work for me in my area.

same here. We've lived in the same place for nearly 20 yrs. and have owned 3 Tacos, 2 Rams, Ford, 4Runner, and 2 Titans and the wife has had 5 cars/SUV's and ONLY on the Taco's do we see rust come on so damn quickly - no other vehicle we've owned does rust show up so fast.

Different compositions of steel do corrode differently.

Get in touch with Toyota, your truck has a really good warranty for corrosion like most car companies do now. On this forum you just beating around the bush, non of us can help you with your rust problem. I told you what worked for my family upstate Rochester New York, 90% of the time is nasty weather every year with snow and heavy salt everywhere. They use fluid film and their car/truck looks new. You quote not willing to treat your truck with fluid film which is fine (not my truck), to me? is part of maintaining a great truck that has served me extremely well!!!

Fluid film worked ok on my 2001 tundra for 19 years...even with 292k miles on it local garage saw it and bought it to sell for a customer they had. The undercarriage still looked about 5 years old with the original frame paint still in place in most spots. Only issue is i had to reapply the fluid film every fall which got to be a pita. I recently did my new tacoma with cosmoline a few months ago after seeing a car coated with it just once some years back. Car still looked great, plus this process seemed way less labor intensive not having to re-coat every year. This morning i went down some wet muddy roads to get to an obscure fishing spot. When i got back i hosed all the mud/dirt off the chassis and exterior. If this were fluid film much would of washed off. I couldn't see where any cosmoline had hosed off...it still looked great like the day i coated it. Time will tell, but so far really sold on this stuff.

My truck does not look like that because I went under it when new, hand wire brushed the surface rust off the frame welds (and raw machined parts), then rattle canned with Rustoleum. I then applied Rust Check in the cavity areas (again with rattle cans). Cost less than $100.00 and took about 4 hours. Still looks new underneath even though the truck is used on a farm, gravel roads, mud, rain, snow, trails, etc... I occasionally pressure wash the underside and reapply the Rust Check. Perhaps spending less time complaining on the Internet and more performing preventative maintenance would help. 6E708B3A-4C5F-400D-AD8E-078C13FB57AF.jpg

Any issues with them performing this if you have sliders bolted to the frame? I'm not taking them off for this. Been fluid filming since day 1 and the only rust I see is some minor surface rust on the exhaust that I've posted before.

Fluid film is the best bet to protect the frame from the rust and salts? I live in Chester County, PA. We usually get lot of snow depending on Mother Nature but we see lot lot of salts on the road.

I can't say the same. I traded in my 2008 GMC Canyon after crawling under (due to a flat tire) and seeing the amount of rust on my frame and underneath in general. The body rust was only just starting to show with exception of the bottom of the tailgate. Not to mention the countless other issues it had, which I can only describe, in my experience, as being pretty typical of GM vehicles.

Fluid film works fine but it must be applied every year which can be a pita. I opted for cosmoline rp-342 on my 2020 tacoma. I've been told it will last a few years, just avoid applying too much of it on electrical connectors...while it drys quickly, and they say it shouldn't be an issue, the company doesn't wish to be held liable for anyone that over does it.

I was gonna spray the CRC on myself, coincidentally I had bought some b4 Toyota sent letters out after seeing undercarriage.but if taken to them they have tools that they insert into the frame cavity via the drain holes and coat the inside of frame.my concern is I don't like anyone touching my truck, not even toyota.i even get nervous when I have no choice and in the great state of PA have to have an inspection.i think I love my truck more than my wife. What happens in Tacoma world stays in Tacoma world LOL.

Women come and go, a Toyota is forever (unless the frame rusts out).

cosmoline rp-342? Is it better than Fluid Film? I am looking at Krown Rust Control, and they quote $145 for the job.

Just don't do the undercarriage and you'll be alright. It's the pressure wash that really gets to it. You may have to reapply to any areas exposed to spray though, such as the lower control arms. Some people will apply before winter and once again before the big melt in the spring.

Some people swear by Krown, but from the side by side tests I've seen, it doesn't stand up to Fluid Film.
