Transfer case fluid

How many of you guys here use ravenol 75W? I need to change my transfer fluid at 30k miles. Thanks

 

Supposed to be a direct replacement. I emailed Red Line just couple of days ago but they didn't get back to me yet. When I hear from them I'll let everyone know!

 

There are messages from the RL guy in the other T case fluid thread.

Like I posted above, they initially said that it was not compatible, but a few months later said it was and updated the website.

Later, they changed thing. Might have done some analysis and testing in the interim? Either way and in general, RL fluids are good in my mind.

 

After looking at the oil analysis between the ravenol and the LF fluid and speaking to my BMW technician friend (who uses specialized oil products that cost 120/< quart) said that its all the additives in the oil that make it expensive. I guess if you change your fluid more often than ravenol or RL should be fine. But I think I will use the toyota LF, check it out again in another 30k miles and do an analysis of it.

 

Yes. That is why I am going to go back to the Toyota fluid. The Ravenol has been great so far though.

The other thread only had VOAs for the Toyota and Ravenols fluids. Hopefully, some more get posted by the time that I am ready to swap.

 

Red Line replied, their MT-LV 70W-75W GL4 is safe to use in our third gen. transfer cases instead of Toyota's own 75w LF !, i will do a general post on the forum so everyone should know!

 

The exact same info is in the other thread. With screenshots and all that. I do not think another T case fluid thread is going to be any more helpful?

In fact, it would be good to merge up this thread.

I used it at 36k, likely using it again in 10k. But all this traffic is making do more research and questioning.

Guys is this looks clean? No burnt smell. No unusual smell that I can tell that it’s contaminated already. At 30k daily driver city/highway.

I should not have touched mine at 7k. The T case fluid should be good for a long time. I was surprised and learned.

 

Thanks guys that’s 30k miles so don’t change it. Check 1st before changing it don't waste your money!

The diffs and MT did need it though. At 30k, they were looking really good just checking then.

 

True but I would like to be using synthetic lubricants. The OEM no one knows if it's synthetic or synthetic blend or plain mineral...my truck has 18000 kilometers and I plan on replacing it with Red Line

 

Yeah I did changed mine both diff with valvoline synthetic 75w90 got it cheap at walmart online free shipping (price was difference in store). I call all dealership around my area and they all use valvoline 75w90 even in transfer case. I will change my transfer case at around 50-60k miles with genuine toyota 75w Lf though.

 

That’s alright too. I will just follow the recommended fluid by engineers since I don’t know the exact equivalent did a bunch of research. It’s better safe than sorry. Every 60k miles is not bad ebay have it for $50-60. We only need 1can = 1L. I just don’t wanna gamble, since I’m planning to keep the truck for as long as I can. It’s just my personal opinion not an advice lol.

Yes. It seems that a lot of dealers are doing that. Strange.

 

Yup, i guess its easy to do it since it’s not their truck. And dealership don’t even stocked it. Also is they do use it they will charge an arm for transfer fluid change for those not diy’ers.
