I swear, I'm a gluten for punishment. Since the truck is still under warrant I took it back to dealership, Livermore Toyota, for them to do the axle seals on the front. Both leaking. Right side more than the left. So, when I take it in I say, hey, as long as the axles are coming off, how about you look closely at the CV boots. Is there a break on labor to replace all four while it's apart. Answer; yes. But still $380 plus parts to do the job. I say, fuck it, replace them. OK. We have the parts here. drop the truck off at 0730 this morning. I don't have a ride, so, decide to go to Poppy Ridge, nearby, and play a round of golf. Livermore Toyota springs for Uber. I'm done by 1230. Truck is not. I call to check status. Turns out, they say, we only had CV boots for one side, not the other. Oh FFS! We'll have them in the morning o we can give a you a loaner, then pick up the truck tomorrow around lunchtime.

So, I say, do it. They send an Uber to the golf course to pick me up. Then loan me a Rav4.

Damn not even a Tacoma? Lol

when I had my headlight replaced when I first got my truck, they at least gave me a base Tacoma to drive til it was done.

Sorry you’re going thru it, Don. I hope it ends up being done once and for all soon man.

Aren't boots the same for both sides? How can they have such little stock on hand!

I feel you don. Time is money. Let them handle it while you have a cold one and golf. But then shit like this happens. I dropped mine to get the AC fixed and that rear end looked at. They fixed the AC for $220.... But no room for my truck on the rack so i came home with the rear still fucked. No hard trails in sight the rest of this year, but i would like it fixed before snow wheeling if that stuff will still exist .

I'm bummed.... First time nobody wanted to touch my rear end. Hmmm :notsure:

What about Brentwood for a rental home? I know Pittsburg/Antioch is sketchy, but what about Brent?

$1300 to replace the bumper, some moldings behind it, touch up where the bumper scraped the panel, the step on top of the bumper, and my tail light.

Everything will be OEM except the tail light they are going aftermarket.. which they are guaranteeing will be “identical” to the OEM that’s currently on it, down to the specs from Toyota. Any thoughts on this? It will indeed irritate my OCD if the tail light LED’s aren’t as bright as the other side that is OEM. Hmm.

I figure if I don’t like it.. I’ll just stalk 2nd gen parts area for tail lights at a steal down the line and replace myself.

I can tell you from experience you can get FOUR strangers to handle your balls in one day if you smash them hard enough.
Edit: the downside is you would never think your balls could get in the way so much when one of them is the size of a jumbo egg for 6 months.
And it hurts quite a bit.

I'd get OEM parts. Not that "like" is bad, it's just OEM is well, OEM.

Yeah I may snag one down the line if I find one and am seeing any type of difference in the tail light.

I guess the tail light is CAPA Certified.. and after some googling it appears that to get that certification the part has to be engineered to be exact as OEM and some part components quality can surpass that of OEM.

Either way, Geico knows already that if I’m not happy with it they’ll be hearing from me. Plus the CAPA Cert part has a lifetime guarantee from the body shop for no leaks and no issues.
