If Brian is in then I'm in. Ride or die.

I'd like to leave Friday morning but there are some work things still being ironed out. Who's coming from SoCal & wants to caravan, maybe we can sync up? @TacoSauceHB should we worry about bringing firewood or just assume that's a hard ban right now?

Firewood will be easy to find in town , im guessing its gonna be a no on the fire but will play it by ear. If the weather cools off and no wind at night I would like to have a small fire at least.

Jesus! Gotta be a meteorologist, geologist, topographer & surveyor just to interpret that page & know if the place you're camping is legal to have a fire. I'm going to get a permit & assume I'm fine to have a white gas stove. Maybe a cigar as long as I don't get my face shot off by hotshotters.

You'll be camping 2 miles from the Mammoth Inyo FS station. You can use portable propane stoves but campfires are out. That could change in a week but it probably won't. Just check in with the ranger station the day you get in. Big building on the right about 100 yds before you turn off on Shady Rest Rd.

I don't know do we have an exact plan of what to do during this trip, but my family and I are planning to visit Methuselah Tree and Crowley Lake Stone Columns. It should not be a full day but looks like I have the whole long weekend, wife is not working on the 7th.

Those crowley stone pillars are really cool! I think we will sit and discuss trail options Friday afternoon/night. @butters_ might be the best one to talk to once we are all there.

I'm still in. I plan on driving up Thursday and staying in Bishop, not sure if I want to fish or hike that day. I'll be in camp sometime after 1pm on Friday.

I got a truetrac and 4.11 gears installed last month can't wait to test it out.

If we decide on Laurel Lakes, I'll try to make it up that first hill again to test the truetrac. This time I'll be the last one up, so I can back out if need be

2wd here as well. Getting TO Laurel wasn't bad for me. 34's, PowerTrax locker, stock gears, and at the time stock length icons in the rear (now I'm on 14" King triple bypasses with hammer hangers). Getting OUT of Laurel was not so easy. The video below shows me making a run at the trail at 1:05 (white taco, orange snatch strap peeking out). I made it on my 2nd or 3rd try, once I backed up enough to get a good running start at it :burnrubber: 1:45 in that video helps give some scale to the hill going to that lake. I was 1 of 3 or 4 2wd trucks to start that run, I was the only 2wd to make it. The only tug I needed was on the hairpin going to the lake, I didn't listen to my spotter & crab walked off the side (locker drawback, you'll learn quick).

Laurel Lakes Saturday morning will be the only trail you would want to pass on. Its doable though, we had 1 bone stock short bed Tacoma made it fine, but you might leave with some scars on your truck as there is a small boulder section 1/2 way along the trail. The rest is mainly loose rock.

You'll make it a lot easier then the guys trying to do it with 2wd.

I really hope the 2wd guys reconsider trying it. It's a holiday weekend on a very popular trail. It's a 4x4 trail. All 2wd drive does it rip it up even more. Just my 2 pennies.

That short wheel base will be a huge advantage. I am long bed double cab so you might do better than me lol You should be fine
