I wish I had the slightest bit of foresight, and maybe a little more balls, and I would have loaded up on Zoom Video when this whole ordeal started. That thing has gone wild. Maybe buying now wouldn’t be a bad idea.

 

I almost picked up some call options Friday. But I got gun shy and didn't because of my shitty earnings record this season. Should a, would a, could a. lol

 

I do, I majorly f'd up on this one. Stupid thinking the market wasnt centrally managed.

 

Simple...a CALL option.
You purchase the right to buy 100 shares from someone at contract price by an expiration day.
On 8/20/20 I purchased from a seller a contract to buy 100 shares of Crowdstrike stock CRWD for $115 on Sep 18 2020. That day CRWD shares were $111/share. That contract cost me the premium of $7.00 per share (that's why the prices look weird) so it cost me $7x100 shares, $700. Because it was trading at $111 and I paid $700 for a $115 that means the TIME value was $300 as the intrinsic value is Contract price - share price $115-111= $400. Today crowdstrike closed at $125.73 and that contract for 100 shares at $115 is now $10.73 per share IN the money. It's value is now (based on the ask) $15.25...Or $1525. So contract intrinsic value is 125.73-115 $10.73 and the time value is $452. I could sell that contract to someone else, sell to close the right to buy 100 shares for $115 on Sep 18 2020 to someone else now for $1525 and make $825. Now if on 8/20 I bought 100 shares of CRWD it would have cost me 11,000. Today those shares would be worth $12,573, A gain of $1573...and what is value of the option that represents that same gain? $1525. So you see for an investment of $700 I have something that is worth the same as an investment of $11,000.
Now the real kicker is when the stock goes down and you own a call...it expires WORTHLESS and you lose that $700 and get nothing...good day sir!
That's why you would sell the contract, because you don't think it's going to be $115 on expiration.

BTW CRWD is up to 129.91 +4.18 (3.32%) after HOURS!!!

Start selling cash secured puts on the price you are willing to pay for it. It's gonna drop a bit eventually so you might as well make a bit of money in the meantime.

Unless your the one selling the covered call. Then you keep that premium. I just sold 2 NVDA $560 covered's this morning for $1100. Guess who's hoping it doesn't hit $560 by Friday? lol

I thought August was traditionally the low volume month...along with Feb....everyone is on vacation and they come back in September.... to start making money.... buying all the stocks I own....

Hey, was doing some reading...watch out for those sneaky mo'fo's in CA trying to end around your prop 13 (1978) by putting a different prop 13 on this ballot AND a prop 15 which is an end around of prop 13 (1978)...so damn sneaky...I hate split tax base. My town is has a small but overly vocal group promoting it...and that's just what struggling businesses need right now..increased property taxes to give them the final heave ho...

Earlier today saw an ad, was saying how fast to make up to 126% on your money. And only to do options on 3 or 4 stocks that you're really familiar with for best gains. Sounds great but losing is greater risk too.

Even crazier is TSLA is down pre-market. They announced they filed with the SEC to sell $5B worth of stock. lol
