Don’t say that too loud they may sneak in your house and break them. :)

Are these special order? Do you pay extra to have them show up in one piece?
    EDIT: I kid...

Had a couple eagle rares. Cracked the Evan Williams single barrel. Solid. Would pay double for it honestly.

So what’s the advice on having opened bottles? Don’t have a bujch of open ones or does it matter? I have prolly a dozen opened that I rotate. Wondering how much it effects them.

I would be curious on what people say on here. From what I’ve read, 3 years once it’s opened. I love trying new bottles, so I have a bunch that are open right now

They might last 3 months haha. Wasn’t sure the time line on them being opened. If they can last 3 years I’m gunna start cracking more. I got a pile of gift bottles that I haven’t cracked and others I wanna try.

20200831_202557.jpg one pour from a replacement. several folks are saying if you like this Rye then you gotta try Willet. which one, or any other recommendations? i have Angel's Envy and it's top shelf but looking for a very Rye experience, and that's what folks say about the Willet. I'm still not sure which one to grab or skip. suggestions welcome.

I wish it was that easy. They keep raising their shipping rates and then service just gets crappier. I watched a delivery person stand at the end he of our porch and fling a package up towards the door on our Ring the other day. I was FURIOUS. Luckily it was a breakable item.

Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel vs Michters Toasted Barrel

Got the chance to try some Michters TB over the weekend. I like it a good bit more than ECTB.
Better nose, better overall taste, better finish.
The nose was sweeter and didn’t have the overwhelming aroma of ethanol. Michters tasted sweeter up front, as well as a better overall finish. More toasted hints at the end too.

Lol. It's funny because it's true. The Family Estate rye is good. The 4 year is readily available, once you get to 6 year and above it's gets scarce and pricey. I personally like Pikesville 110.

Hahah I hope it isn’t 3 months. I think it depends on how much is left in the bottle. A buddy at work told me as long as the cork has a good seal it’s good, I don’t believe that lol

Have you ever looked into something like this?
    https://www.lpsind.com/shipping-materials/instapak-quick/
Might add too much cost but at least they "should" arrive in one piece.

Just saw this for 59.99 at a local store, if anyone is interested. After some research it looks like a great deal

I've got bottles that have been open for two years and they are just fine. Hell, the independent bottling of 15 year Highland Park I killed the other day has been hanging around for 2-1/2 years and it was still delicious to the end, and tasted exactly how I remembered it throughout its life. However, once I get down to the bottom third of a bottle I usually add it to my "hit list" of bottles that need to go sooner rather than later so they avoid potential over oxidation.

There are several tricks to prolong the life of the liquid inside the bottle. A lot of guys will pour in the last 1/3rd or so into a smaller vessel with less airspace and surface area for air to interact with the whiskey. Blanton's bottles are notoriously bad for not aging well due to their shape since there's a lot of surface area in the wider parts of the bottle, so keep in mind bottle shape as well. Another trick is to use parafilm around the corks to keep them sealed. If you leave a whiskey alone the cork will dry out over time and the seal will give way, but synthetic corks can help prevent that to a degree. Never trust a real cork to preserve your whiskey for a long time. The odds of it failing are just too high.

I use the parafilm trick on my first wedding anniversary gift bottle from my wife so I can open it on our anniversary each year. Hopefully I can get to 25 years on that one bottle before she has to buy me another one
