Im still up in the air about this truck. I called my local toyota dealer and the headgasket issue is fairly common. How many headgaskets have you guys seen go bad on these trucks?

bullshit I’ve owned three 06 Tacoma’s and none had head gasket issues. First off you need to know the build date. If after 2-06 it’s got the upgraded gasket. I’m currently driving 06 Speedway blue Sport with 193k miles, runs like a champ. Next up 06 Pre Runner DCLB with 135k barely broken in

finally I just sold my 06 X Runner with 145k miles. Again never any head gasket issues. Howabout some real information from real owners not just second hand BS. There are people on here that have logged many more miles than me without issue. F036BD73-0AD1-4F80-93AA-F7A881B11211.jpg

If the truck is cheap enough get it and when the engine shits the bed buy a used one and keep going.

12k is the price. The truck has 125k miles and a ton of upgrades. Front and rear bumpers, rack on top, 2 light bars, sliders, and a color matched camper shell. 3 inch lift with aftermarket wheels.

I guess that is an opinion.

My brakes on my last automatic lasted about 110K miles and still had some life left in them, prolonged brake life is a myth.

Drain and filling an automatic transmission is also very easy. Even easier for me since I have a dipstick in the transmission and can fill it with a funnel.

    :)

I’m a huge manual fan, and I love my 2009 2.7 5 speed, Access Cab 4wd. I do think that when it comes time to sell, the market is usually smaller for vehicles with manual transmissions since there’s a good percentage that either can’t drive it or can drive it but have no interest in it.

I will say having bought and sold roughly 30 cars (21 automatic and 9 manuals) in my lifetime, my personal experience has been that when a buyer does come out to look at my manual car, they’re almost always a serious buyer. Perhaps that’s because manuals are so uncommon that mine is usually the only one to choose from in my area.

I’ve never had trouble unloading my manual vehicles. And I think these Tacoma’s have a following of people like me (age 45+) that grew up with smaller trucks like this with a manual gearbox as the norm.

My point was IF it needed done, it wouldn't need done twice. Ease off the throttle. Same team.

Understood sorry I read that wrong. Somewhere here there’s a thread which several pages long gives greater understanding to the head gasket issue. Many myself included think it’s overblown (pun intended) But it does happen. 125k miles is low miles for 05, also manual transmission and long wheel base makes it more desirable.

he might not know what he is talking about, maybe just referring to a limited slip. I don’t think this truck would have come with a locking or a limited slip tho.

    Looks nice in the pic.
Manuals will hold their value just fine...., for buyers who want a manual trans.
I searched for mine and have loved every minute of it since I got it.
My reluctance with the hurst shifter is the increased trans noise transmitted into the cabin. either way, you’ll be fine. If the truck checks out, no frame rust, etc etc, then go for it.

Seriously I'm just learning how to work on this thing.
Sounds like a good deal to me. Don’t get caught up on the upgrades tho- see if there’s a record of fluid changes... but it’s a solid deal. 125k is low.
