Exhaust Reroute

Oh sweet double vision!!!!!

 

Are the $50/$60 quotes just for labor and the cost of the piping is additional? Even saw a $150 quote in So Cal, which is more expensive than NoVA. Just trying to figure out why it's $250+ dollars here and seemingly cheaper everywhere else.

 

Mine was out the door, taxes/labor/material included. $60. Said it would be a roughly a full stick of 2 1/4" tube plus labor.

Out the door price. If its 250 make sure its mandrel bent and stainless

mines was mandrel but not ss

 

I would assume $50-60 gets you a crush bend and aluminized steel

 

Went for the tuck option instead of rerouting it back. $90, 2.25” aluminized steel at Leon’s Exhaust Works in Tucson, AZ. They typically rebuild the entire Y to give better flow.

 

Where was this done?

 

Is there a heat shield there ? looks like they put it up against the skid plate there ... wouldn’t that transfer heat to the component . If you need to replace that part Your going to have to drop the exhaust . It looks clean but questionable .

 

Are you adding a t-case skid or just hoping it being tuck up will protect it?

I am wondering if the support brackets for a skid plate will hit it being that low.

 

I assume it will look like mine. I've got 3/4" to spare.

 

Ahh, mine has a 1" lip all the way around. I had to reroute my reroute because of it.

The stock heat shield is still in place and will be adding an RCI skid. Actually had it routed that way after seeing funkeedingus post.

 

Finally got my reroute done yesterday. I went to 2 different local shops (south orange county, CA) both quoted me between $150-200 for aluminized pipe (nobody bends stainless around here). The shop I chose had a minimum of $150 and that's what I paid out the door.

After showing them pictures of this thread and discussing options with them, I went with the behind the actuator route. They said they'd done a few tacoma reroutes before. They talked me into this because they claimed the tighter bend under the original location would make a really tight fit between the skid and the heat shields and they thought this could cause overheating or rattling in that location. I just made sure they left a good 8"- 12" behind the actuator so that it doesn't get too hot. The job looks clean and they knocked it out in a few hours.

Man I'm so stoked on the ground clearance gain! I had the RCI skid with the exhaust bend before I did this and after 2 trips or banging the hell out of it and actually knocking it loose from the trans skid I knew this reroute was a must!

I have the flat RCI alum skid now and it's clean. The shop even took the old one off and threw the new one on for me. Pics attached of old vs new.

 

Also FWIW I called Toyota before doing this to see if it affected the warranty. They claim it will only void the warranty on the stuff behind the cats (cat back) on the exhaust system. No drivetrain or anything else affected. Said it would essentially be like putting on a different muffler. Don't know if this is really true but I guess it's reassuring??? Haha

 

I've been digging around a lot on exhaust reroutes but have yet to find any conclusive information as to weather or not it will void any warranty on the catalytic converter? I called two different Toyota dealers, one said it should not be an issue if the cut is done after, the other was unsure since I was cutting the pipe directly connected to it and a "stock" Toyota part would no longer fit if a replacement was needed (especially if you go for the behind the actuator route and shorten the original Y). Not that it is likely anyone has had any warranty claims on the 3rd gen catalytic converters yet, but I was curious if anyone had any more concrete info? New cats are not cheap and I was hesitant to go for the reroute if it might end up costing me big in the future, even though I seriously want the extra clearance.
