    Hi guys,

Truck shopping. As it stands now, planning on ordering a TRD Pro. I am cross-shopping against Jeep Gladiators, and have been living on both the Taco and Jeep forums for a couple of months now. One thing I haven't found on the Taco forums is sort of a "dealer database". There seem to be some very large high-volume Jeep dealers who are active on the forums and will continually update their offers / deals on the forums. I see lots of vendors in the vendor forums but not really any for dealers. Since I don't mind a road trip of a few hundred miles to save a few thousand bucks, it could be helpful. Is there anything like this in the Tacoweb? For instance, I can go on the Jeep forums right now and find a dealer in VA and one in NC (both a reasonable drive) offering employee pricing down to 7% below invoice and all I would need to do is email detailed pictures of my trade-in.

Who is out there giving good deals on Tacos right now?

I did search, checked sticky threads on three different forums. Sorry but this seems like something you guys should be rolling your eyes at seeing every day but I'm just not finding it.

    Thanks!

    Darel

Start emailing all the dealers in you travel radius. Maybe even set up an account just for this. Take you best offers and work them against each other.

I put a lot of time and effort into finding the best deal. In Va Tysons Toyota has been by far the easiest to deal with. They are a volume dealer and haven't wasted my time trying to squeeze an extra $10 out of me. I have bought 3 cars from them. Also being a volume dealer their inventory is the largest in the region. Laurel Carmax Toyota is also worth a look. They post their prices and you don't have to negotiate. It gives you a good starting point if you are negotiating somewhere else.

I believe I got a fair deal from Fred Anderson Toyota in Raleigh when I "ordered" my 2020 Sport AC, MT. Also, Leith Toyota in Raleigh has been competitive in the past.

Tysons is the big one on the Jeep site too....Maybe a good place to start. In addition to sending out an email blast to everyone else in the area.

@LEBM $1000 off what? Sticker or invoice?

So - gross broad-brush generalization: the Toyota dealers generally aren't as quick to negotiate, and extremely few if any will give the big discounts like the old Chrysler guys will. If you play a good game of telephone tag and can pit your local dealers against each other, you can sometimes drop as much as $5000 off sticker of a Toyota. From experience it was easier for me to get 20% knocked off a Dodge than it was to get $2000 knocked off my Tacoma. Its a high selling item, they like to pull the line "if you dont buy it, I'm not worried, somebody will take it off my lot before Friday".

Thanks guys. The Jeep I'm specing out is almost $10k more than the Taco, but when you factor in the deal, if what you say about Toyota dealers is true they're pretty damn close.

And in a few years, your taco will be worth more than that jeep

That's just untrue. There's not a lot of data out there for Gladiators right now since they just came out last year, but assuming they'll be in the ballpark of a Wrangler the resale is insane. I know the Tacos are outstanding but with the Jeeps, it's pointless to buy used because you're paying almost the same for a 5-year-old Jeep as you are new. In any case they both have very strong resale and it doesn't put one out ahead of the other for me. Ahead of Chevy, Ford, Dodge, absolutely.

So you joined TW yesterday to talk about Jeeps, Ford's, Chevy's and Dodge?
Have you ever even owned a Toyota?

I came here to learn before I spend an ungodly sum of money, and yes I have owned a Toyota. You think it's wrong of me to do research and compare multiple vehicles before I drop half a year's salary on the right one? Sorry if I've offended you by trying to enter your world.

Nah. Welcome to TW. We like to bash on each other sometimes but its all in good fun. Research is cool. Even cooler if you report back your findings and decision. I'm curious on how the two compare behind the wheel, handling wise.

Me too. I'm looking to do some driving in the next month. I'll be honest on paper the Tacoma seems to win hands down, but from lurking here I have concerns about repeated complaints about seat comfort and the stereo. I am a traveling service rep and spend probably 30+ hours/wk driving, so really the seat and the stereo are probably my two biggest deciding factors! Even thought about renting one of each for a week, because an hour behind the wheel doesn't tell you a whole lot when you rack up the mileage I do. Biggest reason I'm looking into dealers first, is I don't want to waste a sales persons time dealing with an extended test drive if I'm not serious about buying from them.

You don’t want either, 30 hours a week driving, I’d be looking for something way more comfortable.

    Good luck
