I bought 2 shares of tesla a few years ago at $280 a share in my IRA. Right now I wish I had bought a few more lol but I'm not complaining.

If someone is only making 20k a year they should not be spending 5 g's on an engagement ring.

Frankly that rule of thumb is ridiculous for any income level IMO.

Tesla and Apple both split yesterday. The price to play isn't so bad today. :spy:

(will probably still hold out for the next valley)

That really doesn't matter...a 10% return is the same for 1 share at $1000 as it is for 10 shares at $100.

Sure - send me your CRD# and I'll get the background check started.

    .........

I'm sensing that some people don't understand that when a stock splits the price you pay per dollar of revenue/earnings generated by the company stays exactly the same. Yes, you can buy more shares but you are still buying the same % ownership stake in the company...hence, the price to play is exactly the same thing before the split as it is after the split.

    ..........

Edit - but this thread isn't about being smart with your money...if you have $5k to blow it's time for new suspension!

I think we're talking apples and oranges here. Everyone understands that the percentages remain the same.

I'm saying that it's now possible to buy what was a half-share yesterday. Making it easier for the low volume hobbiests to buy in at a lower price point than what the $1000 share was going for.

When a stock splits at 4 to 1, each share value is 1/4 of what it was making it affordable for the little guy is what I take @Rock Lobster ‘S post to mean. As to mine, I just want your money.

Whoops... I didn’t see post 96 above before I wrote this. The part about wanting your money still stands.
