Tacoma locking gas door

That's pretty neat, but there's a reason locking gas doors don't have a place you can pull on. I imagine it wouldn't take much force to overcome the plunger or just bend the gas door entirely.

It's just a deterrent against "casual" tampering. Just as "easy" to drill a hole in the fuel tank.

 

^More concerned about sabotage, pouring sugar down the filler neck, etc.

And most fuel tank skids don't have side coverage.

 

I kinda liked the key locking gas door that was on my old 2000 Tacoma. That video looks like it could work as a deterrent and send the little thieves to the next vehicle.

 

I have stant locking Gas cap from Amazon, it seems to work well no issues.

Hi! Is this still working out for you with no issues? A parts guy from a local Toyota dealership claims these things will set off the check engine light on Toyotas, Hondas, and others.

 

I have the exact same one, and it's worked well for me! No lights or anything come on.

Though the reason I'm here is because there's no place to tether on that gas cap, so I did have to drill a hole in it to feed a ziptie through. Because of that, it's a bit of an annoyance to unscrew the cap, since the ziptie + tether starts twisting and tangling on itself as you twist, and starts knocking up against your knuckles.

So why not just run it without a tether? Well, you can for sure! But I did that for my old '93 ranger, and lost the gas cap 3 times from leaving it on my bedside and it falling off while driving. So I like tethers

That's why I'm here. A locking door would be so much easier and save a bit of hassle at the pump without needing a makeshift tether.

 

Thanks for sharing your experiences with the product. Good to know. I may consider it. I had an untethered gas cap on a 2nd gen MR2 that I drove for a little while. It wasn’t too, bad. However, I would prefer one that’s tethered.

 

I think I'm in the same boat as a few of you guys. I've been looking for a locking fuel door for my 19 Tacoma and haven't found anything. Have any of you guys had any luck?

Im still trying to find out if there's anything I can do or purchase in the way of a locking fuel door like the older Tacoma's, but I can't seem to find anything.

 

Ya, I couldn’t find any locking gas lid doors for 3rd gens, so I went with the locking fuel filler caps.
