OBD reader for resetting TPMS

I'm wondering if anyone here can recommend one of these OBD scanners that can reset the TPMS after I've swapped out my tires? I bought a spare set of factory wheels and had costco mount new snow tires a couple years ago and after every tire swap, the system needs to be reset with one of their OBD readers at the shop. Up until now I've been swapping the wheels myself and the guys at costco have always been nice enough to do the reset if I stopped by and asked, but I'd like to get the tool and do this myself.

Not sure which one of these will work or if they're all essentially the same.

If you have a laptop, you can get a pirated copy of Techstream and the cable for less than $50. OBDinnovations has the simplest instructions for setting it up. After that, you can program TPMS sensors and a bunch of other cool stuff. That’s the only option I have experience with. There are dedicated TPMS programmers like you found. There are also magic boxes that you store the numbers in for winter and summer wheels and then you just plug the box in, wiggle your nose, and jump on 1 foot and it does the programming for you.

 

The second one will not work as it’s for the main computer and doesn’t read the TPMS system. The ATEQ works correctly as I have one for when I swap from summer to winter. Only problem with it is you need a computer to hook it up to as you can use the unit to pull the sensor numbers and then upload it to the computer. You also need the sensor ID’s off the other set of tires which this system will not do as the trucks TPMS computer only stores one set at a time. You need to change out the tires and see if Costco will reset the computer then pull theses ID’s so you have both sets stored in your home computer. Device comes with an excellent how to manual on CD.

So currently I have the stock tires and I'm getting the yellow tire warning. If I hook up the ATEQ will I be able to pull the sensor ID's of the snow tires I had previously on the truck that were working correctly or do the tires have to be mounted and everything synced up and the warning light off before I can grab the codes?

 

Anything that plugs into the OBD2 connector will only be able to read the sensor IDs currently programmed into the truck.

There are only 2 ways to get the sensor IDs of sensors not currently programmed to the truck.
1. Break the bead loose, pull the sensor out and read the numbers.
2. Use a wireless magic wand held near each wheel to read the sensor IDs wirelessly.

 

Just reread your post a little more carefully. Yes, you can read the IDs currently programmed to your truck, even if those sensors are in Kansas.

So pull the codes off the computer with the ATQ device, these will be the snow tires you had installed. You hook the device up to your home computer and the program they include with the device will read the codes off it and store it on the computer. Take your truck someplace ie COSTCO and have them reset your computer to the summer tires. Now you can use the device again to pull these codes off as it has two buttons on it, one summer and one winter. Back to the computer and upload these codes to it. The program will show both sets of tires with the sensor ID’s now. You can even move the ID’s around if you need to rotate the tires. Very easy to use.

 

Very well written with 1 exception. The 2nd gen Taco doesn't care which sensor is in which location on the truck. If the wheels with sensors are in the bed of the truck, the light will still go out.

Check my tires once a week with a gauge and daily with me eyes...

But that's just me....

My last set of Goodyears went 82K, so I am ok with that too..
