Sounds like you went to Santa Cruz Hilton? They kicked a bunch of people out so that CalFire and crews had places to sleep.
I'm down the street from the hotel, is how I knew, and was allowed back home late last week.
What a trip this has been.
    Were you in Boulder Creek?

We were at the Four Points by Sheraton. Never stayed at hotel with worse staff before. We have been at Chaminade for the last week. Yep, we are in BC and still waiting to go home. We are expecting to have our order lifted in the next few days. So tired of hotels.

I live in NorCal, near Placerville. It has been thin as hell for last couple weeks now. Cleared up for a coupel days, and this weekend the winds shifted, and the Yosemite fires are raining ash on us and the sun is a faint red or orange glow in the sky through the haze.

Not surprised. In a way I am glad, less visitors, Inyo might have a slow down in our spike of Covid cases.

There is a steady stream of cars, trucks and campers coming down the mountain.

Yesterday the winds picked up from the east, peaked at 29 mph, blew all the smoke back to the west and south. This morning was clear but it is starting to smoke up this afternoon.

We got back to our house last week after about 3 weeks evacuated. I went up to check on a old friend that is in his 90's that I haven't been able to get ahold of since we were evacuated and I saw this. There was something like 1500 structures destroyed in our counties fire over the last several weeks.

Thank you. I'm in San Jose (100 miles) my brother is American Canyon (50miles) all my people are good so far and it's been much worse.

Not to downplay the fires at all, but keep in mind that the news ALWAYS makes it look worse. During the '89 earthquake, my Aunt in South Carolina called me at 2AM because that's the only time she could get through. The news made sound like 1/2 the state was underground. Yes it was bad, but a three days later things were OK for most everyone, except for a missing freeway.

This morning was the first day in two weeks that we could see the mountains. And the AQI was 'Good". Unfortunately our 'good' was from the winds blowing everything west - Santa Ana conditions for everyone else.

Glass fire is no joke. Heard it’s closing in on 35K acres.
