1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

My only BMW experience was with my mom's i28 (I think that's what it was...), nothing fancy was just an expensive commuter as far as I could tell. She got rid of it a couple years ago for one of those fancy new Honda Accords, she had that BMW for several years but the last few it spent a lot of time getting worked on.

She stopped letting me drive it several years ago when I was using the gear selector to shift manually and accidentally slammed the brake pedal in the middle of an intersection looking for a clutch, muscle memory.

 

BMW have horrible repair-ability ratings and often need more major services than other luxury manufacturers. But that's not really news. The tough part is lots of the parts for them are OEM only, no third party options. I wouldn't ever bother with an NA Bimmer, breaks just as often and you don't get any speed payoff. They're certainly a lot tougher to work on though, and depending on what model it is, you could be entirely unable to maintain your own car if the initialization processes are locked to the OEM tool or if the part isn't sold to end users (some arent). The M135i is pretty much devoid of luxury features though, it's just a comfy car with a decent engine and turbo. Supposed to be their budget performance car, that's also why it's engine bottom end is hard capped at 600hp, a relatively low number for BMW inline sixxers.

 

Not bad, so far it's only been small shit a suspention link that was like 40 bucks, an alt 200/300, serp belt, tensioner, valve cover gasket, coils

Everything else was just bullshit afformentioned mechanic took my dad for a ride on

A couple years and a lot of highway miles, %80 of the work that was done to it was in the first 3 months

 

I'm getting wind that one of a few winches that work with the ARB bumper I bought will only work with a WARN VR EVO 10 S -- Not a Zeon 10-S Platinum.

Majority of winches can be clocked, and have their solenoid relocated, to fit a wide variety of bumpers.

Would be weird to hear about a Warn fitting and another one not fitting.

Shit I’ve been good since Saturday. Thanks for asking. Grilled out and got hammered on Sunday, worked out on Monday And chilled since they told me to stay home cuz wuflu scare.

I've become an angry old man now with a baby in the house...we finally get her to sleep and then I hear a motorcycle rev 5 miles away and I have homicidal thoughts

Surprisingly she'll sleep through most any outside noise, but god forbid we creak a floor board in the living room and she's wide awake again lol.

 

You just need baby ear muffs now. Like the R28 ones for gun shot sound resistance. I only let this thing warmup cause it was the middle of the day, if you slap it in gear immediately and drive a foot it cuts the warm up cycle, which is the loud part cause its firing late to warm up the cats.... that aren't there

 

We tried those ear muffs, my wife insisted because I was watching my vulgar TV shows with the baby in my lap lol. She won't keep them on, they just become a weird thing on her head that becomes another interesting thing to chew on. Like our Apple TV remote

What does work really well for sleeping are the sound machines, we blast a fan in her room and play an ocean sound machine at the same time. Helps to drown out most sounds

 

I can't sleep without a fan, it's because of tinnitus, but still it helps drown out other things too
