I bet you could make something like this. But the price isn't so bad. The size of these are impressive. Some are not this big.

This is going to be versatile and the swing away feature keeps you from catching on fire. Or, more control over what your cooking. If things get too hot, move it from over the fire. I actually picked up a cast iron griddle plate like the one shown in the pictures one day in BJ's for like 10 bucks on clearance.

But this is nice too. And would allow you to rotisserie a whole chicken, fish, ham or roast.

And remember, any steak can be cooked in a pan and taste delicious over any type of heat source. I pan fry steaks all the time. I marinate them, use a very heavy aluminum pan, and baste them with butter and herbs. That's how the pro's do it in $$$$ restaurants.

With a seasoned cast iron skillet laying right on the burning wood, or a medium high heat, 5 - 6 minutes per side while you baste with a half a stick of butter and thyme, rosemary, or some cilantro, black pepper, salt, garlic (only add the garlic at the last minute or it will burn and taste like shit), 3 - 4 minutes to rest, leave all that stuff in the pan, throw the onions and potatoes in there and let it get crispy, only turn things once, then make your gravy. Nothin's better.

Food! So many ways to go with this.. Elegant or simple.

Steak an eggs in the morning is great in the sticks. weather you save some from the night before or pack in another small one just for this reason. Can even do it up in a burrito with sauteed onions and peppers. Toss on whatever else ya want to make the eyes and taste buds happy. Dice up some potatoes to the size you want, season your way in a ziploc baggie. cook with breakfast or dinner.

The Jimmy Dean sausage logs, that you can slice as thick as you want for sausage patties.. I'll even kinda dice up a small part and mix it in with some ground beef for a burger of something else. gives the GB a little bite if you go with the medium or hot, log rolls. Same goes with a few slices of bologna from the deli section. A fried bologna sandwich with cheese is a quick fix for breakfast or dinner.

Any thing you can pre make (soups, pasta, what have you) at home and then warm up at camp. I've been known to have spaghetti (pre made) in the woods.

A goey assed grilled cheese sammich with some tomato or chicken soup when the temps drop, is damn good till you burn the hell outta lip or tongue. Still freakin' worth it tho.

I know you know this, But size your meals to yourself. Unless cooking up for several people and the buffet light is on.

The lunch varies for people. I'll do a make ready sandwich on the trail with various meats or the PB&J. Some times I just eat nabs or the such to get me thru till my dinner meal, then put the feed bag on.

Pending on the length of said field trip. I'll still pack all drinks in an ice chest and the food in the fridge. or pull and replace a drink from the fridge.

    My $.02

More often than not, I have way more drinks in this fridge than I do food. This 55 is way too large for just me. It's pretty silly. The alcohol is strategically hidden on the far left under the water and juices since I'm not supposed to bring it out on the trail system. Makes sense, and I don't consume while out there, but I don't want to unload it just to wheel.

Someone on IG had asked me my final gear ratios now with 4.88 and I'd honestly never checked. So here we are, stock on left with 35s and my 4.88 on the left with 35s. 31% increased gear reduction in 1st gear 4lo. I'll take it.

Ha! You getting checked last time is why I’m hiding it this time. Usually I don’t bother.

3...wife decided it had to be redone. Then had the baby 3 weeks early. It has taken me six weeks to get to where it is almost ready for paint and furniture.

That sounds incredibly selfish of your wife  Good luck getting it finished. Kids seem to add an unreasonable amount of time and complication to any project. 'Was going to refinish the downstairs floors pre-kids, now its probably going to have to be the next homeowner's problem. I'll also never buy a fixer-uper again til they graduate.

Some great suggestions on the trail food here. Just speaking from backpacking experience, but greasy trail food, plus trail booze always gives me trail indigestion :D. May your trail farts be... well, just farts, OP.

The grass looks out of control. Your yard guy goes tomorrow.

Idea. Have you considered just spraying the grass with diesel? Just to tame it a little.
