It pays to rustle through your LBS's parts bin. Found the exact brakes I want that were used on like 5 rides and are impossible to get a hold of new because...covid. They look brand new. Savings? mucho. Another piece of the puzzle for my bike build.

 

I'd love a Spur and Sentinel lineup! If I already had a bike at one end of the spectrum or the other this would just be a +1 convo. But since I have a do everything bike the options are buy a new do everything bike or buy two new bikes. As much as I like the idea of the latter option, dropping $10k+ to buy a couple new bikes doesn't really make sense. The Ripmo wouldn't have me SUPER overbiked on my after work trails, but also probably wouldn't be the bike to get the most fun out of them. The Rascal is more and more appealing. What would a 2018 Scout GX with Spank/I9 wheels sell for? haha

Or get a Spur and keep the Scout because realistically it punches way above it's travel on descents.

 

Scout I'd put on the upperish end of trail because you're right, Transitions are undercover heavyweights. Keep it, Add a Spur or a Vanquish hardtail and call it a day

Then on the other hand, my real love of riding is the fast steep chunky stuff, and I'm kind of itching to get a bigger travel big-wheeled bike to see what it's all about. I F-ing love the looks of that new loam gold Sentinel!

 

Anybody has a picture of their Tacoma with MTB on their roof racks? Purchased a Roof rack and planning to mount my MTB on it. I have a bed rack for RTT and I don’t want to keep my bikes on the ground while my tent is open. And I don’t want to buy any adapters for my RTT as will. TIA

 

I’d love to have a vanquish. People have been asking primo for them long before swine flu took over. Not that I’ve been looking for a year or so

 

The transam was always appealing to me. I feel like the Kona honzo is comparable though

Absolutely! I keep an eye out for trans am as well. I’m not as knowledgeable of what years rear spacing standards changed for that one though.

Honzo or a nimble 9 would be a nice addition too. I may or may not have a running PB search for a few hardtails that tickle my fancy. With the used market going bonkers I’ve kinda stopped looking lately. I’ll wait til the prices start coming back down to reality.

 

True, yeah I’ll browse at random to see if there are any deals on bikes I’d like but rarely ever find them haha

 

Here's my take, for all .02 worth. I've always ridden a "do it all" mid-travel bike. I felt like 160/140 was the magic bullet for 99% of trails.
I got lucky, and was able to sell my bike and get deals on a short (Django) and long (Spartan) travel 29ers, which made it a lot less painful.
Here's the rub. Much like all-season tires, all-mountain bikes are good for most conditions, but excel at none. Riding them back-to-back opened my eyes. To add, the new breed of long-travel 29ers pedal as well as my mid-travel 27.5.
IF IT'S FEASIBLE to own 2 bikes, don't hesitate. There is nothing my 160/140 did as well as either of the two (140/120 and 170/165) options. There's enough of a difference to really make riding each one super fun in its own way. And I never have to think which one would be better for which ride, it's pretty damn clear.

I'll second what @abacall said, get two if you can swing it. As good as the mid-travel/trail options have gotten on the down, a true enduro bike is just a whole other world when it's steep and chunky. At the same time, the long travel bikes have gotten so good at pedaling but I still don't enjoy it as much as my hardtail on more mellow rides where I wanna be playful.

Ugh, I was hoping to get south but the heat is returning in the next few days.

 

Yeah, I was about to mention that it is REALLY nice weather her ein Northern Utah right now but the heat is supposed to return in a few days. But it's not supposed to be as much of a scorcher. Shoulder season is happening! Moab, St. George, Fruita runs are gonna be happening. woot!

 

Cedar/ st george was so cool today. 60 when I woke up at 8 and stayed below 80 all day. St george wasn't in the triple digits so thats a chilly day for them

 

NICE. Yeah, Northern Utah got to MAYBE the mid 70's. But, mid 90's to return this weekend. :/ oh well.

 

I was seeing over 100 again this weekend down south, but yes... soon.

 

And I’m planning on being in SLC all October! Best month in Utah.

 

I was so close to getting a transam back in the early 2010s. Ended up with a Ragley Blue Pig and was super happy with it. Actually just sold it last year.

Yep the two is for sure my preference. It would likely require having just one of them for a while though. Even then just hard to justify. Too many other irons in the fire and damn bikes have gotten expensive! I’ll keep an eye out for deals once the post-covid sell off starts.
