    Hey guys,

Absolutely love the forum, have used it many times to learn about maintenance procedures and DIY mods, you guys have been a great resource, thank you! I was hoping to get some advice concerning safe/secure ways to store a rifle in the bed of my truck during travel. My state has some pretty strict regulations concerning firearms transport and the repercussions for failing to adequately secure the firearm are pretty steep. Currently, I have a Victory 4x4 MOLLE panel in the bed and am using some Quick Fist clamps to mount some tools to the bed wall. I could probably use these clamps to mount one of my rifles (Ruger .22lr takedown/ Remmington 700 sps tactical .308) but I worry that if someone got into my bed through the OEM tonneau cover they could easily steal the weapon(s). Does anyone know of a way to utilize these MOLLE panels with a more secure mount for the rifle (preferably with some type of loving mechanism) or am I going to have to purchase some type of bed gun safe? If it is the latter, could you suggest some reasonably priced solutions? Also, I have to store my ammo separately in the bed, again in a locked storage case. Any suggestions for this would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your help, I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!

No he is correct. Move. Get out. Your very life depends on it.
Laugh and call me a fool if you like. That is the very best advice I can offer another man in your position.

I left almost everything I owned to get out of Illinois. It is a very long story. Later moved my Mom, Stepdad, and pregnant 14 year old sister to my house in Kentucky. Ended up raising the baby. She is 18 now. I don't know where you are but laws like that are made to make you a serf.

Lol, I do plan on moving soon, I am not a huge fan of where I currently live. Unfortunately, I have to stay put for a while longer for personal reasons. And yes, I do realize that if someone is determined to steal my stuff, they are going to do so. I guess what it boils down to is finding a way to do my due diligence as required by the local ordinances and to make stealing my stuff as difficult as can be done. I don't plan on leaving these weapons in the truck, unattended, for any great length of time but I am trying to find a method to secure them that would make life difficult for potential thieves if I needed to pop into a store on my way to/from the range. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hardside rifle case. No state messes with you if you have it in a case.

It might help if we knew what the local ordinances are. In my state, having them in a case is all that is required last I checked.

Without knowing your local laws and feelings of storing a rifle in the bed is a terrible spot in terms of the ability to get to it quickly. Which I will put aside. You could always look into police auctions. Tahoes and Explorers usually have locking cabinets in the rear and some even have a long rectangular locking cabinet made for rifles. If you can find one of those it would need to be bolted down to the bed. Example. ed gun rack.jpg

My Truck Vault should be ready to pick up next week, probably the best in industry couple it with a locking tailgate and windowless canopy while not totally theft proof it sure would slow em' down. Tax exempt in WA State.

Even in california, I think it can be argued that if you put a rifle in a safe, with a trigger lock, locked the hard sided case itself, mounted it/put it in your truck bed which has a tonneau cover, and locks that you put in a reasonable amount of care to properly secure your weapon during transport.
