OP- for whatever it's worth, Shapen Toyota (Marshall TX, about 45 min W of Barksdale AFB) sells all new tacomas at invoice, even the beloved Pro. I ordered a 2020 Pro MT from them last Nov.
Returned from short tour in Riyadh in Mar.
Port date for my truck was 14 Apr.
Then PHUCKING COVID shut down production, so I cancelled the order and found an Off Road in FL that I had shipped to me.
Not sure if that helps or not...
FWIW, the back seat of the new jeeps have much more legroom than the taco. Jeeps are one of my favorite vehicles by a long shot, but I have 2 teenagers and need a truck bed so I am limited to one ride for me...damn kids and their rides

Normally I’d guess each market makes a difference but as said earlier production is stalled.
My buddy was looking to get what I have but I’d moving forward with a gmc canyon at4

I'm right by the Lackawanna State Park. My avatar pic was taken in Fleetville. I'm not a huge fan of TofS for sales - when the dealership leadership changed hands a few years ago it's sales philosophy changed, too.

If you are willing to wait for a 2021 you might check with Freedom Toyota in Hamburg - I can give you a good contact. That's where I bought my 2020 AG Pro. Drop me a DM if you want the contact. I checked and they don't have any Pros in stock.

At this point, it's going to be tough to find anyone with AG Pros on the lot not already sold...and I doubt any will discount given the shortage of inventory.

LA is a little far for me - about 23 hours IIRC from the last time I had to drive from home to JBSA. I'm willing to do about a 500-mile trip.

I'm in the same boat with the backseat, too. 2 teenagers, although they don't ride with me often enough to have it sway my decision, it's still a consideration. I'd heard that about the backseat room between the two.

Yeah but they'll charge a premium.

The cheapest 2 new 4Runners we found last year were 2 hours away, or across the country. The one across the country was only $100 less than the one 2 hours away so it wasn't worth looking at.

We went to the local dealership to see what they could offer us. They offered us a pretty good deal on one, only like $500 (maybe $1000) more than those two previously mentioned. But then he said they didn't have it in stock and would have to get it. He showed us the spec sheet and wouldn't let us keep it. He also wouldn't tell us where it was other than it was "on the east side of the state." But, looking at the VIN, it was the exact same one from a couple of hours away. So we drove over, got the price knocked down even further, and bought it there.

Given that it was 2 hours away, it was far cheaper than $500 to go get, not including the extra money off. I realize this is pretty specific and $500 isn't much in the car world, but still.

if you want a certain color, model, package, etc. then either order it or go on a nationwide search for it, if your willing to compromise on particulars then you can wheel and deal on the price on what the dealers have on the lot cause they want them sold.

Agreed, to an extent. In this case they "knew what they had" and also had the usual tactic of "another customer is also interested." The first dealership wasn't willing to do much to help other than give us a lease, which won't work for us. And you could forget wheeling and dealing on a used car. This was even the end of the year when they're usually more willing to wheel and deal (this was a 2019 model in December of 2019) but they wouldn't budge much.

this is one of the main reasons I always buy Toyota trucks, once I acquire one it limits having to wheel and deal buying a new vehicle because they will run for over 200k miles plus sometimes I wont have to deal with salemen for over 10 years easily, unlike domestics where you have to replace the vehicle every 3 years, the truck I have now was used had a 4 banger auto, and was a sr5 super white 4x4 not all the stuff I really would like to have but was in good shape a needed a vehicle ASAP and I paid top dollar they wouldn't budge $500 on a cash deal, I knew the truck would be gone in a few hours so I had to bite the bullet and buy it, life is full of compromises.

I find most vehicles will last 200k+. The difference is how much you spend fixing it during that time and how willing you are to keep doing so. I've heard many state that Toyota's are relatively trouble free outside of regular maintenance, and others who state they're really no more reliable (in the long term) than most vehicles. However, after my experience with GM, I'm a little wary. I've had good experience with Ford, but the last one I personally owned was a 1998 and had far fewer electronic components. Time will tell though!

Sadly, just discovered my first body rust on my 2017.

In times like these you have to be flexible, like willing to go out of state to find what you want. I started out with the Costco price and then worked several dealerships to get what I wanted. Had to travel a bit to get it but it was a fun day flying out and a 3 hour drive home with my new taco.

Wait, you flew someplace that was only a 3 hour drive away?

Yup, used miles for a “free” flight from Portland to Redmond OR, then a drive back with my new taco. It was a fun day!
