Hey all. Just wondering what octane you guys recommend using in the 3rd gen dual vvt 4 cylinder engine. Owners manual states 87 or higher. This dual vvt engine has a higher compression ratio than the previous 2trfe. Recommendations? Thanks!

Whatever the designer, engineer, and/or manufacturer of the engine recommends. Based on previous comments, I'm assuming that's 87 octane!

I've read that Colorado has 85 and 86.

I am in Colorado. We have 85,87, and I believe 91. I use the 87 “pure gas” with no corn.

Just asking whats optimal. Doubt toyota changed every single aspect of the owners manual for the 2016 2.7. Id bet most things in it are carryovers. Its not the same engine.

I’ve seen 85 for sale in Utah as well. I think it has something to do with the altitude or maybe extreme cold weather  To the original question I would follow the manual and run 87

Higher elevations can get away with the lower octane as there is less air density which means less cylinder pressure, which means less need for octane to prevent detonation.
