Still say a nice Sport with lockers is the best option, Bilstein 5100’s, 285 70 17’s, and several joints for the road trip.

 

One of the downsides probably already mentioned is the fact you cannot take the Sport into brown, let alone muddy waters.
Probably due to the silt, my engine surged for two weeks after a few of these crossings, the rear diff took on water, parking break locked
up and the dealer voided what was left of the useless Toyota warranty. Service manager puffed out his chest and stated if I wanted a
truck that was meant to be abused I should have bought an OR.

 

How is this thread 20 pages long?! Yes you can wheel damn near anything. Yes 95% of people here will never get into a spot they will need a locker, that remaining 3% you can find a different line, build the trail, use some momentum, but that remaining 2% it will be useful. But the bottom line is...all else equal a locker is more offroad capable than not a locker.

 

My 2WD Sport has taken me down plenty of trails. Its extremely capable and has never left me stranded. Well, except for that one time. Besides that one time my 2WD has never gotten me stuck.
