Yeah with 2-300lb for the topper plus the tongue weight of the camper too, I could see getting over 500lb of the blues quickly. Going to go with black as well I think, knowing that it doesn't really change anything when you aren't towing. Thanks!

    edit: And... ordered.

That's an awfully funny looking Tacoma! What mods you do to it to get it looking like that? o_O

This taco is on a f350 chassis and a v10 swap lol. It’s so much nicer than towing one. Now I tow my Tacoma to the camp site lol. I just swapped which one I drive there.

Thought this might be a good place to ask: for those with high clearance bumpers with tire carriers, what kind of hitch extension + drop bracket are you using?

I wouldn't want to tow that with my truck ( 2019 DCSB 4x4 SR5 with tow package ) as I feel it is to much. I tow a 17' Casita which is about 2800 lbs unloaded. Even if I fill the fresh water tank and load for a trip I am still way below your dry weight. I like the layout of your trailer but think you need a bigger tow vehicle .

Those are some monster water tanks. Mine has just over 20 gallons worth of fresh storage - no on board gray or black - and there is a huge difference between full and empty even on that small volume. I can definitely feel those extra 180-ish pounds tugging at my hitch.

I would be real careful to plan out water fills and dumps, so that they all occur on the last mile of the trip. Also, be aware that the little things add up quick - cookware, linens, grills, toys, camp chairs - those little 3-15 pound items can quickly and suddenly take that trailer way over the truck's weight capacity (exactly like how just those few little splurges at the grocery store can surprise you with a couple hundred dollar ringup at the register). Be very choosy on how you furnish that trailer, much to your family's annoyance I'm sure. :hattip:

    Congrats on the new purchase!

Thanks for the advice. I am planning to fill up water when I get to a campground and dump when I leave for the most part. I realize that is not always an option so at the very least I will minimize traveling with full tanks. I've already braced my wife for the "not everything can go in" talk.

Hate that for you. We enjoy it quite a bit. It’s so much more convenient and easier. I can get it in any national park and it’s easy to drive. The funniest thing is I get better fuel mileage in it than my Tacoma pulling my old aliner.

So you're never going to dry camp...? Because you won't have fresh fill & dump at those campgrounds.

Also, please be careful because you said kids plural which means you have at least four people in the cab of the truck and over 500 lbs of tongue weight. I'll be shocked if you don't exceed payload.

We did like the convenience while going down the road. We didn't like the mileage (10MPG with a tailwind), When you're at camp if you need/want to go somewhere you have to put everything away. After selling it we got a Chalet that we used for 10+ years. Now we have a R-Pod that we like.

I love the rpods. We actually tow either the Tacoma or one of the bugs for getting around.

What model Rpod do you have? We’ve got a 179. Perfect for conventional towing with the Tacoma.
