Had another conversation with RSI today and found out so more good news. The RSI cap pictured here is actually a prototype, pre-production model. The standard production caps are approximately 1" longer so that will help cover a bit more the tailgate cap.

With a bit more tailgate coverage and a new latch system capable of opening from the inside in the works, these just keep getting better!

I went hiking yesterday and didn't have time to post any photos, but I took one from the other afternoon while installing it and here it is!

After hiking, I took the truck to the manual car wash and used the pressure washer to clean the truck and test for leaks in the RSISC. There was one tiny leak toward the front, that I need to re-test and finish sealing 100% and then in the back where the tail gate meets the cap, there was also just a few drops coming in. It only stayed in the back where the tail gate is and I think it got in because I was using a pressure washer....otherwise if it is just rain I think there will be no leaks. But if there are they will be fixed!

This cap looks sweet. Sportier or more of a tactical look to it. Im super happy with it so far.

The last thing is that the D rubber gasket where it meets the tail gate is still too thick. I trimmed it with scissors yesterday and there is still a little more effort to close the gate. I might totally remove the rubber gasket and use foam pads instead. Still need to do more water testing.

    More pics to come later.

Did you let some water build up on the tailgate lip? I’m wondering if the ass end was higher than the front, of rain would be able to puddle up on the tailgate shelf and then flow in.

Im not sure Im interpreting your question correctly or not. But I sprayed the tailgate continuously for a few seconds at least. And the entire back of the smart cap. With a pressure washer.... So water was going everywhere. Including the top fo the tail gate. After I washed the truck, I drove off, fill up gas and then checked the bed for water. There was only a tiny bit at the tail gate where everything meets together in the corners it leaked downward.
Then there was another leak somewhere near the front, I think where the bed might have a smaller hole or something I couldn't tell without a light. SO need to retest. Hope that helps.

Does the window on the cab side fold down for easy cleaning?

No. there is a sliding window that you can use to pass things through such as fishing rods/ etc. or check on your dogs. But it doesn't fold back. There is a gap between the truck and cap, and enough space to get into to clean. At least it seems so right now.

So there is a good chance that just rain (not pressure washer) the inside of box will be dry!, that's wonderful. I think this South African caps are the ultimate caps. Being in Canada they're more money...but I'm already set on eventually getting one. I think they're built like our trucks rather than being built like a boat. Ofcourse ill need to shop around or even do a trip to the US...and get one there providing our canuck $ gains some value...

That’s too bad. It would have been a “smart” feature!

We sponsored and attended an offroad event this past weekend down at Virginia Intl Raceway. For those wanting to see the RSI Smartcap in action, check out this little video by Bushmaster Productions:

Be careful, lots of problems with products designed in desert environments, being imported to Canada. One winter with exposure to magnesium chloride spray on the highway is all it takes to ruin the finish if the manufacturer has not done salt spray testing. I'm not saying this product is one of them, I'm just saying you need to be careful buying stuff out of places like California, South Africa and Australia.

How tinted are the windows, and is the RSI Smart Cap logo on the side removable? Seriously considering this cap as the dealers around my area aren't true dealers(guessing they deal with distributors), and their prices are outrageous. Something like this is appealing due to it's shipping and easy installation. And the factory color is black?(matte?)
