Other websites have speculated on the same. Sounds like it won't be out til 2022 though, the 2021 builder on Toyota's website still lists the V8 as the only engine option

You won’t see this drivetrain until at least 2022

Is Toyota completely doing away with the V8 in the Tundra, or is the V6 turbo just another option?

Not to stir the pot about tacoma, tundra, torque, raptor, etc... but I'm curious what cars people came from to the tacoma? Honestly to me, the tacoma is a pleasure to drive. The highway is really the only crutch of this truck. Around town, a to b it's the first thing I pick.

The tundra is the opposite. Long highway? That's first choice. Around town, anywhere else? No way, it's terrible.

There is a report going around that the new tundra will have an option that comes with the same engine in our tacomas. 278HP V6. Let's pray its not true.

Crappy old trucks, shabby cars. First Tacoma was an 08' MT and I LOVED it. I despise this 18' AT

Totally agree. The Tacoma is great around town and the tundra is excellent on road trips

the drivetrain in the 3rd gen definitely leaves something to be desired (especially the AT) for people who had 2nd gen trucks. The interior and creature comforts are definitely a step up though.

The 2016 AT was a nightmare on the highway, but a great truck if you stayed 55 mph or less. I traded on a 17 MT and it’s hard to believe it’s the same motor.

With 2.0, I don’t really have any complaints though.

I came from a cult classic...

    A Suzuki :)

The overall size of the Tacoma is almost perfect, but it’s highway abilities are very lacking

Edit: that Suzuki even had a cable throttle

I would disagree. The interior is a major step backwards in the 18' vs the 08' in my opinion. Both are access cabs, the back seats in the 08' folded forward to give a nice storage platform, it had a nice coin cubby, and a sunglass storage bin on the ceiling. The 18' access cab has shite back seats (you don't buy an access cab to haul people), and they got rid of the coin cubby and the sunglass bin, and instead gave us a bajillion cup holders. Also, they got rid of the cubbies above the wheel wells in the back. Overall, I consider the 18' access cab a far less useful truck, and can only imagine that they got rid of those things to A: save money and B: just to be able to say that they changed things between generations.

    4 cyl 3rd gen Taco and finally a V6...

Have you tried the double cab Tundra? I hear that the crewmax's handling feels worst while the doublecab is more "sporty" but haven't driven a CM to confirm.

After testing a DC Tundra with trd off road suspension, it's actually sportier than I thought possible on a full size, and I have driven it on an urban/highway/city traffic. The width makes it a pain in the city(although is just an extra 5") but handling and the fun factor is better than I expected. Perhaps the double cab and TOW/Haul help greatly.

Definitely making me consider the full size vehicles more, my biggest concern was the fun factor in driving.

All mine have been double cabs but I agree the fold flat seats were way better in the access cabs.

just like I wish you could still get the rubber floor

I believe mats tundra is a double cab (and has a harrop)

ive got a crew max and it handles a lot better than I expected from a truck of that size. I have a habitat on the back (+400 lbs). After upgrading the leafs and adding the TRD sway bar, the weight isn’t noticeable at all.

the turning radius of the tundra is shockingly good

Previous vehicle was an 06 4Runner with the 4.7. Had an 02 Tacoma before that, so I’m not new to Tacoma. But I do miss the V8. The lack of power is really my only beef with my Taco, but I knew that going in.

Agreed and I hear the TRD Sway bar makes a big difference on road driving. The TRD excedeed my expectations so can't even imagine what it would be like with the sway bar.

Unfortunately and also fortunately, the Tundra I am testing has some rust issues being from NY and will probably be keeping the Tacoma, so now turning my eyes in great condition first gen Tundras.

They are basically Tacoma sized Toyota's with a V8, my biggest gripe being the outdated interior but I feel like fun factor on an extended cab first gen Tundra should be great!

You are correct and these trucks really don't accelerate after 3rd gear.

Currently VF Tuner only allows you to install premade tunes correct? No tweaking of your own ECU at the moment... With my particular 04B04 ID, I can only choose from one of these:

    https://ovtune.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/2.0+Final+AT+Base/04B04+FINAL.zip

Later this year, OVTune is releasing, a performance tune, gear lock, map switching, and tweak your own tunes?? Just want to make sure I'm not missing something.

    Thanks in advance.

Ugh.... Can someone link/PM me how to get the 2.0 files for 04A61? I'm getting the "error downloading file" message in Flash Manager 1.3.5. I fear I may have to re-register or whatever since my tuning laptop updated without my permission...
