Headed out Friday. IDK where we are going yet we are headed into the mountains to the national park. It is all first come first served so we ay be back home Friday night. If I get up there and they are full I will go to the camping area and see how many will be checking out on Saturday and then just go back on Saturday. Some folks are just travelling and not there for the whole weekend. Not ideal but all part of the adventure

We challenged ourselves to hit all 4 of the camping areas on the National park this year. We have done 2. We have done another a couple of times in the past which really only leaves one we haven't been to. It kinda all boils down to what the sign says as far a vacancies when we enter the park

In SC there is a book with all the state parks that have camp sites, and if a ranger checks them all off that you camped there you get some kind of recognition, I don't remember exactly what it is.

We started to do them early this year, but the first site we hit the wind off the lake was brutal and it was so cold we couldn't get the kids out of the truck, so we packed it up. Going to start working on it again as soon as it cools down.

That is interesting I may have to check to see if we have a similar program.

For sure, I think it's a great motivator to get out. As much as we love going to the off road parks, we also really enjoy hitting the state and national parks and, well, enjoying our tax dollars!

My biggest problem is the lack of time off with this job, I was spoiled by the last 2. Alot of our state parks are a ways away from us. some are pretty close and we plan on going to them We like the state parks Va has some good ones. Covid has made it tougher this year, I believe, because so many people are trying to get outside now and do things. Camping pots have been full and just by observation many campers apear to be pretty inexperienced. I guess alot of city people trying to escape the cities more IDK sometimes kinda funny to watch though

I'm with you there, man. Work seems to be taking up a lot more time than it ever did before the virus crap. 2020 just needs to end. I really hope we can get some good camping in soon when we head up towards your way.

Yeah park availability has been horrible here too. Is funny to see all the covid campers. Seeing new trucks and campers every time. We laugh because we know they won't last and then lose on those purchases to get rid of them at a major loss.

Same problem I've just lengthened my day to use days off still so we can get out. Work getting done is all my work cares about lol

I thought about heading up into Rapidan but it has rained literally every day Idk how it oils be getting up the first big hill. I need to get up there with a map and try and plot all the camping spots. It would be a great escape.

Get a Gazeeteer, the iOverlander and freecampsites. Net apps and head into GWNF and JNF there's tons of camping out there, you just have to be adventurous and find it all.....
