Laurel Lakes is definitely doable in a 2WD -- at least in a locked 2WD OR. I just did it last weekend (2nd time in the last month) and had no issues, out or back. In fact, I helped to recover an F-150 that decided to try and negotiate the crazy switchback without doing a 3-point turn, and ended up stuck on the turn. I'd love to go, but we will be up in Big Bear this weekend.IMG_8008.jpg IMG_7440.jpg IMG_7490.jpg IMG_8022.jpg

Smoke has been minimal last two days but if you drive down the grade to bishop you enter the smoke. You should charge up!

@theesotericone my bad on the horrible comparison, somebody told me they were driving the wheeler to train for the rubicon so I figured it was pretty gnarly. I haven’t driven either btw, and I agree with you that you shouldn’t drive in 2wd and tear up the trails, not to say they shouldn’t be on the trails but more than likly most 2wd trucks on trails that are 4wd will do more bad than good for their ego to the trail and others driving it. Yea big groups are a hassle for the most partbut can be fun and this group is a good time imo. And over the past two years, the eastern Sierra has had a huge influx of tourism in all seasons and the trails, camping and crowds are getting out of hand up here. Way to much trashing of our roads or camp sites ect.

Me to, I've got 3 hours of meetings on Friday (more actually, but 3 during the planned drive) but my Webex background plus mute should keep the management buzzkills off my tail. If I'm lucky I'll be the only 1 who knows I'm in my truck driving up the 395

The large influx of tourists has been going on much longer than the last two years.
And sadly, I don't see that changing.

totally agree, I just meant for my last two years of driving roads like laurel pretty frequently. Before I just use to hike it or bike it and there wasn’t that many vehicles frequenting the road like there is now.

Here’s a quick map to the camping spot . The red lines on the right of photo are 395, super close from 395 Or take the scenic loop from town and it’s near the end Of the scenic loop.this way has a nice fun hill climb, I recall someone
getting stuck there last time, let’s see if anyone has to much fun on it. (It’s 2wd btw)
