Help picking the right size wheel- ray 10's

Any insight on some of the differences in the sizes for Ray 10's? I'm mostly confused by the two 17in choices. Why would you choose one over the other? I have locked in ray 10's and milestar Patagonia for my wheel tire combo. Currently, I have 16-inch stock rims and i would TBH have kept them but I realized today I need a wider rim for the sizes I'm considering. I'm looking for close to 35's something like 315/75R16, 295/70R17, 315/70R17.

Anyway I guess my real question is why does the 17x9 have some much more offset than the other 17in and 16in. What is the intended application?

All very good questions. A lot of people prefer the look of the 17x9. With 315/70R17 Tires. Or, just get true 35x12.50R17

with that, it gives you that POKE. The Stance. It makes it look that much more aggressive.
17x9 -38 offset on your left, 16x8 -12 offset with spidertrax wheel spacers on your right. We are both running 315’s.

 

Interesting, yeah I see the difference there. I am currently Running Spridertrax but I'd like to not have to. I am making this switch because I poped two sidewalls on a trail this last weekend. Gotta replace two tires might as well go bigger. I'm thinking the wider the wheel the less chance of sidewall puncture, like the wheel would have protected the tire in the situation I was in. But I've never heard anyone talk about that. I am not super concerned about looks, but I suppose form follows function. Looks like I'll go with the -38 offset thanks.
