Dakota Universal Speedo Corrector: An easy alternative to the HyperTech

eta- regeared to 4.56 and speedo stayed the same as it was with stock gears and 33’s. Confirmed with scangaugeII and gps.

 

So does this work for manual transmissions? Sorry little confused.

Been using an older model on my T56 swap, for years now.

 

Since making this thread, I have learned that the 05-11 manual V6 read speed from transfer case. 05-20 Auto V6/12-20 Manual V6 read speed from the abs sensors.

So can’t definitively say if the same speed wire will have to be tapped into for you. I would assume so.

EDIT: After further investigation, module does not appear to be correcting speed. Got it up to highway speed and changed the calibration via app, no apparent effect.
I don't think this module will work on the 2012, I'm going to take it out and replace with hypertech.



Did this over the weekend, forgot to take pics.

Pretty easy, seems to work just fine on my 2012 6spd MT.

I ended up using double sided tape and sticking it to the vent. Tapped into the same wires, using the posilocks (which were expensive but worth it).

I used, ign, gound, speed input, and Out2.

Running BFG 285/70R17 with stock gearing, 1.04 (+4%) correction seems to be spot on. The BT app makes changing the calibration SUPER easy.

I just edited my post. I investigated further, and the output the app is showing is not reflected on my speedo. I don't think it's gonna work for the 12-15. I'm going to take it out and replace with hypertech.

 

So your speedo isn’t displaying the correct speed?

 

Yeah, I thought it was spot on at lower speed, but realized once I got over 40 the error was still present.

I then tried making larger adjustments in the calibration and realized it was not changing my displayed speed at all. I did not check to see if it was correcting odometer.


Perhaps it was my settings. I took a screenshot after I changed the calibration value back to 1.

 

Try high/high. That's what I had to have mine set at. I would imagine we would need the same settings even though you have the BT version.

No delta. Running High/High didn't change what I'm seeing on my speedo.

Hypertech is in the mail and on the way to me. I bought the dakota digital on Amazon, so will likely be returning.

 

You’ll most likely have better luck w the Hypertech unit. From my research, the 2.5gen responds well to it. My 06 didn’t detect the Hypertech unit at all so i went w the Dakota unit. Hypertech attempted to troubleshoot w another unit and still no go.

 

Not sure which wire you tapped into, but this device will not work on a 2012-2015 Tacoma. The gauge cluster gets its speed signal via CAN bus and the only speed signal wire from the cluster is the speed output signal that goes to the rest of the truck. If that's where you installed it, your speedo will still be reading incorrectly, while the rest of your truck (ECU, etc.) will be getting the modified speed signal.
