3.5 or 4.0?

I’ve never drove one of the early 2nd gens. My ‘15 moves really well and is basically bone stock with a tonneau cover and slightly larger tires. I’ve wanted to tune it, but if memory serves me correct, OV tune no longer supports the 2nd gens?

 

A 1st gen should be on every Toyota enthusiast’s radar.

 

I know HP tuners supports gen 2 now, not sure what OVs plans are. I think OV has mainly been focused on the 3.5 and 5.7 at this point in time.

Quickness and the number of gears are not tightly related. 0-60 is typically the first two gears. And the first three for the quarter mile.

 

That's not very 3rd gen of you, we have expectations to uphold.

Ah fuck them 3rd gens, get a 4.0. 2nd gen master race.

 

They are completely related. Tighter gear ratios keep the motor in the power band between shifts. More gears=tighter gear ratios.

0-60 is a pointless statistic. Many properly geared vehicles will be in 3rd before 60 MPH. so, they'll have a worse 0-60 but actually be quicker.

And, any vehicle that is still in 3rd in the 1/4 mile is NOT fast.

Let me know when I can fully charge an EV in less than 60 seconds like I can fully fill my gas tank in less than 60 seconds

 

I not so concerned with speed....Driveability , dependability ....The 4.0 is very stout. I heard the 3.5 with auto is very flat at low rpm and having some dependability issues. Once again, the opinions come from the 4Runner Forum so taken with a grain of salt. I have driven both and honestly hard to tell a big difference. So I will take the advice of a earlier poster and do a more extensive drive,, Thanks

 

Sure, but ratios that close would me 10spd boxes. From there, you get into the shift happy woes.


As is, 6spds are a nice balance in my mind.


I agree that 0-60 is typically BS, but it is the standard that we got. 5-60 was getting some traction, but that dropped off the map? What would you have for a general comparison?

 

Based on what has transpired between post 2 and your post 78, I would say those expectations have been exceeded.
