I had a 2016 4runner for a month. It definitely has more grunt under 40mph. After 40mph it falls flat on its face and the 4runner averaged 16mpgs when I had it. My truck gets 20-21 hwy, 17-18 city and that's with my lift, 33" tires, front bumper, rear bumper and sliders.

As for stout, I see people replacing blown motors in the 2nd gen forum. People talk as if they're unbreakable. They are for sure, way easier to tune and have better aftermarket support. That being said, I'd rather swap a LS motor into one than try to make big (600+) power out of the 4.0.

60sec? I don't think I ever seen a fill up that short outside of racing pit stops? 5min in reality?

Beyond that, 95% of the time with an EV, it will be full leaving the garage. So for ICE, the comparo would be the time of the drive to the station and filling.

I do agree that charge times at 480v out on the road could / should be faster. Hell, pack exchanges have a certain appeal.

That's what I don't think is understood. Majority of driving is intown with the occasional trip, which I'm sure will have some sort of charging station...or take another car for said trip. I'm sure most people buying them have more than one vehicle anyway, so it kind of voids the argument

You can get fries with gas? I'm canceling my Costco membership and switching immediately...unless they start offering chocolate frozen yogurt again. RIP

I guess I don't really have an answer there.

I suppose it's not entirely pointless. It's just that it forces automakers to gear 1st and 2nd too tall sometimes in order to have a good 0-60 time, when overall acceleration might be improved with lower gearing.

Even a proper 6 speed would be an improvement over the 5 speed, IMO

I can totally see it working for our needs. Even on our longest trips back in the day, the current Supercharging network would have worked well for us.

Godamnit, entered the wrong phone number, gotta start all over again.

Telsa had that battery pack swap thing that swapped the entire battery in less time than it did to fill up a comparable size car. But I think that was pretty much vaporware.

Yeah. It disappeared. I can just see that everyone gets on the skateboard concept in 10yrs or so, it might come back. That is also dependant on what happens with battery tech. There is some good stuff noted on the research side.

Absolutely. I would 100% have an EV right now if: 1) space in the garage 2) money. I hardly drive that far at all so it would be incredibly cheap. I just wish they didn't all have these tv's for infotainment centers. Can't stand that crap

The problem with charging at home is 1: it can be very pricy to install a proper charger and 2: you really need a garage to protect everything from the elements.
Also I don’t have 1 place that I commute to work. Monday and Tuesday I might drive 50 miles round trip but Wednesday, Thursday, Friday I might drive 140 miles round trip each day just going to and from work. I don’t have to worry about plugging my car every night when I can just make a quick stop at the gas station

In Jersey we have pump attendants so we just give them our card say “fill it, please” then play on our phones

The Model Y is roughly the same cost as my wife's acura rdx when she bought it new. Most likely we will be replacing her car with that when it comes time. She barely drives her car, and because of 'rona, we have only put about 600 miles on her car this entire year. It's been sitting on a battery tender most of 2020. Even a short range EV would work for her. But 320 is fine for the long range 3/Y. I'm a fan of actual buttons as well and the build quality really isn't there for a 40-50k machine but the tech like self driving is pretty amazing. Not to mention the performance.

Same here. We do hang onto cars for about 10yrs. For our use, a $10k EV premium is in the range. So basically, a Model 3 would fit in the same budget as our Forester. That will at least be the arguement that I toss up when it is due. :D

That is true. Very pricey is subjective though. I know folks living easily with just 110 charging. 220 is not hugely expensive. Now, a PowerWall and all that is crazy ATM.

We're kinda garage addicted, so that plays well with us. Running an extension cord out of an apartment, not so much.

For that 140mi trip, you're still well within most of the EVs out there. But, I do see where you're coming from. In the end, ICE and hybrids aren't going anywhere for quite a while.
