The DD's look great. Guess I should have read more than just the first 10 pages of this thread. I got a lot of catching up to do!

So I just put in an order with Hotshot Offroad for selective yellow fogs.

I was there too but wound up going diode dynamics sport for significantly less. Install was a breeze.

Your path is a perfect parallel of mine. Did you go sport or pro?

 

Sport. Had a set of pros in my shopping basket, but decided to save the Benjamin for ditch lights.

 

Been doin’ a little experiment over the last couple weeks. I’ve got more Deer than Dogs in my area. Headlights, Lightbar are clear & they freeze or get real spooked. Turn on my KC amber fogs & they calm right down & are a hell of a lot easier to figure out. Some slow to a trot so I know their more curious than scared. Now, I don’t know what they see but whatever it is, the amber seems to calm them down. I’ve tried this many times before I spoke up. Any thoughts on the @crashnburn80

 

Yeah, they look sweet, but I want to do more research and thinking before I pull that trigger. May have to wait until the next sale!

 

I'm looking for lights that help me see thru corners while coming down forest service roads at night. I know that I could look at ditch lights, but I'm curious if any of these wider throwing fogs can't do that for me?

 

A good fog pattern light will give you that. If you scan through this thread, there's some really good pictures of a number of the fog pattern pods covered here in actual use.

 

I've been following this thread since the beginning and may finally pull the trigger on a set of DD in Selective Yellow. I currently use my factory fogs as my daytime driving lights - I basically run them all the time day and night. I'm leaning towards the DD Pros but am wondering if they'll be too bright to run all the time and if so, can that be remedied by maybe aiming them down a hair from stock. Appreciate any feedback.

If you are the type to run the fogs all the time, I would recommend the sports which have a sharper cut off that meets the more modern F3 spec. The Pros are street legal and amazing, but they also have more light above the cut off than the sports do, meeting the much older F spec.

 

I use my fogs similarly to how you use yours and went with Sports based on @crashnburn80 ‘s comments.

 

I have the sports and use them every morning for for extra light cause I drive through a heavy deer crossing/coyote area. If I had the Pro's I would be distracted by how much more light they project up. With the sports I don't have to worry about bothering other drivers.

 

To be clear, as has been mentioned many times in this thread - what you choose is a personal preference, but both the Sport and Pro meet legal requirements for light shining above the cutoff. Both are completely legal and safe to use on the road as fog lamps, as determined by SAE.

 

How much is mounting fog lights higher up going to hurt their functionality? I'm looking at an aftermarket bumper that will see my fogs probably 3-4" higher than the stock mounting location. Is it just a question of aiming things properly afterwards or is having the pod sitting that high going to reduce effectiveness? We do use our fog lights for their intended purpose pretty regularly in winter snow/summer dust conditions.

I'd suggest that it probably won't hurt their functionality as much as it will bother oncoming drivers. (It will somewhat negatively affect the functionality though.) As for bothering oncoming drivers more, it will do that because you will bring that nice, well-defined, flat, horizontal beam up closer to the eye level of oncoming drivers. Slight bouncing of the truck that didn't raise the beam up high enough to bother anyone before might now be more of a problem.

As for negatively affecting functionality, it will do that for the exact same reason I mentioned above. The flat beam pattern will now be raised above the ground (intended target) somewhat, so less light will make it there. Make sense?
