Help me identify this sound please (not suspension)

So last weekend I did and oil change and changed the spark slugs.

now I noticed this sound coming from the engine area.. it’s not the suspension. It sounds like rain on a tin roof. It’s that faint sound in the background.

There is nothing leaking. I was thinking u joint. Or cv, but it sounds like it’s in the engine compartment

 

Seems like its on time with the rotation of your cv shaft. Just my .02, maybe a u-joint? Not the most common failure but that noise sounds kinda like a bad needle bearing. Maybe someone with more experience can give you more than just their blind second opinion.

 

Sounds like tin . Possibly exhaust shrowd coming loose. Go under the truck and grab the exhaust shrowds .Some of my shrowds have fallen off .
Possibly 1 of your backing plates for the front brakes rubbing up against the rotor . They bend easy . Jack the front tire up and give the tire a spin by hand . If the backing plate is rubbing , you will hear it .
Universal joints make a chirping sound when they go . Your sound is more like a tin shield rubbing
I am assuming it only makes noise when the truck is moving ?

 

it happened at idle as well....

Im gonna try that. Thx.. does sound like tin. But I noticed at idle in park as well.. does not while in drive and foot off brake

 

Could it have anything to do with iridium plugs ? Only thing I changed.. cause auto zone did not have the spec ones and I didn’t wanna drive anywhere else

 

Dont waste your time on the backing plates . If you hear the noise in park , its not the backing plates .
Have you noticed a loss in power like a missfire ?

 

No. Drives like normal

 

Disregard.. is not in idle only when wheels are moving. I’m gonna check the brakes tomorrow

 

Take the serpentine belt off for diagnostics . Dont run it for a long time though ..4 minutes at the most
This will eliminate all the rotating parts on the front of the engine making it easier for you to diagnose the sound in the engine compartment

 

What I heard was condensation dripping from AC onto something hot.. turned off AC.. and only happens while moving or accelerating

 

Isolate corners if you can. Get one wheel off the ground, spin it, see if you can replicate the noise. If you can't, then that'll, probably, remove the brakes, wheel bearing and wheels out of the equation.

It sounds like worn rubber(Bushing) and metal on metal contact.

Could be. Try to replicate it while the vehicle is still so you can narrow down your options. Best thing to do is take all the advice lol.

It could be pinging. Mine pings when I run 87 octane gas and sounds metallic like yours. Mostly when accelerating or climbing hills. Next time you fill up, try running premium and see if it goes away.
