Yep a good reminder. I was using one of my dads older bass rods a couple of weeks ago when I was visiting and I snapped off on 3 really decent fish. Checked the rod guides and one of the guides had a tiny chunk missing, making it a little rough/sharp. It was cheap and old enough that he just tossed it and got a new Pflueger Trion combo for $70.

Cant believe summer is already going bye-bye. Still have a couple months of decent bass fishing, but then its goodnight for a few months! Hopefully the ice gets thick and safe this winter. Will be back up ice fishing this year for big trout as soon as its thick enough.

i hear you. I had a fuji rod tip repair kit already handy, so I put the smallest tip in the kit on it. it's a little big, but i think the hotglue fills the gap. we'll see.

OOOFFF! i just found this on an inherited GLoomis salmon rod.. I'm guessing I might as well rewrap the whole rod in current guides vs. replacing just the cracked one (and maybe not matching it up well)

i'm thinking I'll spiral wrap it

Hit the Delta today on a bass boat. We did well.

learned a kayak spot in the process.

What part of the delta did you go to? Off the river? Or a back slough?

Buddy just bought a new 25’ enclosed cabin North River. Takes ownership in a few weeks, I’ll let you know if I go and we have an open seat! He’s talking about taking it out every weekend haha

Just a heads up for everyone.... TackleWarehouse is having their annual 15% off site-wide Labor day sale this weekend. Just copped another rod and reel for a pretty good price!

well before i start stripping guides off that graphite salmon rod, i thought maybe i should practice on a lower value rod. I have this fiberglass 11' Daiwa FT surfrod. it's pretty great for crabsnaring, except the 1st guide seems a little small. 35mm compared to this 47mm guide on a busted 11' penn battalion surfrod that I found littered the last time i went out. I took it home to strip the guide off for this $25 Daiwa FT. (that was the in-store price - sometimes its $19.99!!)

I had a box of various color guide threads handy, made a couple of "V" cuts in a cardboard box, and put the red thread spool on my line winder.

looking good, guide wraps are the worst, especially when you get to the smaller guides.

Went out fishing a couple weeks ago when we were evacuated, didn’t catch anything but ended up throwing a Diawa Fuego on my rod I built, matches up nicely. The microwave guides are awesome, this thing casts a mile!

Wow! Very cool. I don’t think that shark was hunting the kayak. He seemed to be waiting for them to catch a fish - to steal it.

thanks! And not yet, this is only the 3rd rod I’ve made. Still trying to get more experience before I think of selling them.
