Honest opinion. I've owned both. A 2005 with an auto and a 2020 auto.

The 4.0 is definitely a more enjoyable product because of the low end power it has and the fuel saving gearing that's paired to the 3.5.

That said, when it was time to buy a new truck I didn't go for a 2015.

The 4.0 is nicer but that's not enough of a reason to limit myself to a second gen.

I bet he's one of those guys that drives Ronin style all over town only to end up and the same light as Hannah's Highlander that he passed two minutes earlier

The 3.5 has 42 more HP, the 4.0 has 1 extra TQ.

I thought we were all Tacoma enthusiasts regardless of gen 1,2 or 3...but this is a third gen forum guys!, it's one thing to exchange experiences and stuff but not to bash because one is bigger, faster, newer...it's absurd!

You'd think he would have seen the part of the map clearly marked ROCK GARDEN.

But nope. He knows what high centering is now though.

The 3.5L has more HP, but is geared toward MPG. It will not be as quick off the line, but I've found plenty of acceleration while already doing highway speeds.

We have a 2013 4Runner and have had 2 Tacoma’s with 3.5, 2019 and 2020. They have differences but the 4.0 does not seem that much more powerful or anything like that. I found nothing wrong with the 3.5.

Totally apples to oranges, but I feel the 3.5L has plenty of power for 98% of use cases. If displacement was so important, the 4.0 in my 1992 Cherokee would put out a lot more power. Test drive and see what you think.

How is it that the 2nd gen used less gas (slightly) to run the 98 mile mpg loop than the 3rd gen in that video, but he managed to calculate that as 2 mpg less than the 3rd gen?? Idiotic.
