Had to put a new outside driver door handle in, broke it the other day.

 

Plate arrived finally. Been like 8 weeks.

Will look better on the flatbed once it's done.

Buy a welder. One of the best things I’ve ever done! Opens up doors to so many projects. I got sick of relying on people to help me weld shit.

 

Can the boxed frame be done without relocating the shock mounts?

What’s the advantage for relocating the shock mounts?

If you do the relocation shock mount does it use the same shocks for the truck?

I only used 3 of the 10.

 

The stock upper mounts must be cut off to plate the frame. The frame box kit comes with mounts that can be welded back in to replace them.

Advantage of replacing them:
A) Gets rid of them as many people have a problem with them rusting out.
B) Relocating the shocks (aft axle) requires it anyway
C) You're able to move the upper mount up higher, which helps running a longer shock.

When I relocated the shock mounts, the way I did it, you need longer travel shocks. Remounting the shocks, I was using before the relocate, would have had the shocks close to fully extended and normal ride height.

 

How does the back mount? Is it a screw on the backside? Was gonna do the raptor lights on my stock grill. Just wanna make sure these will work. Thanks Matt!

 

There's no threads on them. I just put a bead off Automotive Goop on them to hold them in place.

I picked up a Hobart 210 MVP. You can run it on either 110 or 220. Doesn’t have the fancy stuff millers have but it burns hot and lays a good bead for under $1000

You also need to worry about the rear brake proportioning valve.


Honestly, for how you use your truck. The frame plates would be more than enough and I'd think work better for you. You don't have to redo the shocks or brakes and can keep your spare tire under the truck without taking up bed space or buying a swing out.

The thought you had on the shock mounts trapping water and leading to rust..well...boxing the frame would be worse with that logic, just making a bigger pocket.

So i'd just do the frame plates. Front Range Offroad makes some really nice ones that go further than TG or CBI's. Be semi local to you too could go pick them up.

 

I've had great luck with the Eastwood stuff too. Good customer service as well. Have used the MIG175 and the MP200i. Plus their big ass plasma.
