I’m sorry dude. This is not the norm with my many experiences with Toyota, reason I keep buying them, rarely a bad experience, Ford, Jeep, holy hell way different story.

Was eyeing a 2020 TRDOR DBLB in Cement with Premium Pkg, Tech pkg, Predator Steps, and the usual listed for MSRP $43,xxx. It was sold the same day for MSRP in Auburn Toyota.

    I didn't even have a chance.

Agreed. Anything less than 'GOOD' on the follow up email surveys typically flies right up the food chain with a big red flag and in my case (not Toyota) prompted a call within a day of submitting my form. I explained the reason for my less than satisfactory assessment and was quickly given a $100 voucher for future service.

You have? I have my brother In law that lives there so I heard some good things about people finding good deals there. If you don't mind I'd love to get those contacts from ya.

Makes sense. Toyota is real good about maximizing their efforts and being more efficient.

That’s expensive. Even for a 4x4 and TRD OffRoad.

Tiburyso, if you’re willing to make the 6 or so hour drive, you may be able to find a better deal East of you.

Hard to make any comparisons with just the OTD price. At a minimum we need the MSRP and the sale price.

After trying for the last couple of months to get the best deal for a 2020 that I could I ended up buying a pre owned. All the dealerships know people will pay what they wanted since the market dried up. The mark ups they tried to get me on was ridiculous and no offense to anyone paying these prices but like many say it is best just to wait. Unless it is an absolute need or you can find a good deal on one then jump on it but the amount people are paying is outrageous. This is just personal opinion. Luckily I snagged a 2019 TRD Pro from a private seller that went through a divorce and didn’t want to pay for her to have a truck. So I gladly snagged it up for $37k and glad I waited. Everyone has their means of need and want and mine was a want so I could be patient. Others may not have that luxury but if you do then by all means don’t let a dealership pressure you into buying something now.

Before I get dragged for this - I went in knowing that I would probably have to pay MSRP (I'm in the PNW). I haven't had a car payment at all for over 5 years and wanted something nice to take on camping trips / hikes / trails / etc. Spent almost 2 months talking with basically every dealer in the state trying to get a line on what I wanted and only one was able to come up with it. Even talked to some dealers fully disclosing that I had a deposit on this particular truck and was told I was lucky to even find this one. Maybe I was duped or got screwed, but I can afford it and I at least have a sweet truck to show for it!
    • Year, trim, color, transmission, bed: 2020 TRD Off-Road, DCSB, 4WD, Cement, AT
    • MSRP (before dealer add-ons): $44,773
    • Options: Premium Package, Advanced Tech, LED headlights/Fogs, All-weather mats
    • Cost of dealer add-ons (tint, floor mats, nitrogen, etc): $299 (Pulse brake lights?) They tried to add other stuff and I had them remove but thought the lights may be more annoying? - whatever.
    • Price before Tax Title License (TTL) including rebate: $44,773 - $1,000 rebate = $43,773
    • Discount = (% off MSRP): 0%
    • Incentive (rebate/customer cash): $1,000
    • Price Out The Door (OTD): $49,445 (10% tax rate)
    • Trade in vehicle(year, make, model, trim): 2010 Honda Civic EX-L (was able to get ~1k more than I reasonably expected for this, so that helped)
    • State: WA (PNW)
    • Purchased few days ago

    • Options: Premium Package, Advanced Tech, LED headlights/Fogs, All-weather mats
    • Cost of dealer add-ons (tint, floor mats, nitrogen, etc): $179 added bed mat and bed lights at time of purchase
    • Price before Tax Title License (TTL) including rebate: $44,952 - $1,000 rebate = $43,952 - $3,305 (Costco Discount) $40,647
    • Discount = (% off MSRP): 9.98%
    • Incentive (rebate/customer cash): $1,000
    • Price Out The Door (OTD): $41,657
    • Oregon

Reached out to multiple dealers and none were willing to budge off of msrp some even asking significantly more. I wanted a fully loaded Tacoma with MTM and had almost decided to wait. Ended up seeing if Costco had any dealers in my area that took part in their purchase program and a dealer 20 miles south of me did. Super easy said what I wanted they gave me the out the door price up front. It took a couple weeks for them to track one down. Walked in looked at the truck then talked to finance. I’m not sure if I will buy a car any other way in the future. Was waaaay easier then the normal haggling and walking away game that I’ve had to play in the past.

Okay. So I am probably in the minority here -- but here goes. GOOD FOR YOU! You have the money. You want to have some fun. You bought a great truck. So what you paid a few thousand dollars more for it than you should have. If this global pandemic has taught us anything it should be that life is too short.

Don't get me wrong. This is a great forum. And it has helped a lot of people share data and help negotiate better deals in many, many cases. The house (meaning the dealer) always wins and so if this forum helps a little ... a percentage on a deal here and a few points on a deal there, it has all been worth it for the folks who work hard for their money and are looking to save. I love that about this thread.

But sometimes you have to pay the bill and get on with your life ... You are also in one of the toughest markets in the country it seems for Tacoma pricing. You press where you can but at a certain point having the truck is more important than 5% off MSRP.

Look on the bright side. At least you didn't pay more than MSRP !

    :)
