Purchased the VFTuner (w/ cable) and the Tacoma Tune Pack. I am following the instructions OVTune site and sent my System ID over to OVTune mid-week.

Am I doing this right? Should I still be using Flash Manager? All I received in the mail was the cable and OBDII adapter, nothing else. Just a little concerned since I think the initial instructions email I received got deleted from my spam folder.

    Thanks for the responses.

If it's only been a couple days, I would give it a little more time.

And this is of course what makes the tune, and life in general, is interesting. I would argue that "most others" don't drive in S mode 100% of the time. Hence your experience may not be, and I would argue, not the norm.

These third gen Tacomas struggle to make any power down low. It reminds me a lot of driving my ‘79 Yamaha IT 250. It had poor low RPM power, but once you got on the pipe, it took off like a rocket. Ours hits that power surge around 3000 RPMs, so it is painful to see it race to shift and settle in at 2000 RPMs. I am patiently waiting for the final 2.0 to be release with the performance tune to see if it keeps my truck in the power band more frequently. If not, I will try fine-tuning it with VF Tuner.

In need of some assistance on OVTune, registered, cable and flash driver came in yesterday. I have seen different instructions on whether or not I have to get the truck registered with OVTune or not? I hooked up to the truck and identified and then sent that information and haven't received anything back. Was this a necessary step or am I good to go?
I have the 04B81 ECU, and downloaded the tune package folder on the the beta web page, but when I try to open in Flash Manager it just brings up the regular screen with year/ecu/etc... the tunes don't come up. Even when I try to download anything it comes up download error in the bottom of the Flash Manager.

What in the world am I doing wrong?

I typed that fast: I have the registration key, I have everything downloaded, I just can't pull up the 04B81 tune file when I try to open with flash manager. Hope that makes sense.

So .... you are an AT ? If so, I don't think the AT tune packs for 2.0 are released yet. I think you need 2.0 because you are a 2020. There may be some beta files out there ...... I don't know where they are. Read back thru the previous posts. ( or some one else may come along to help .... )

Yes I'm AT, I guess I'm confused. I have downloaded 04B81 2.0 tune files, all I have to do is plug truck in, open tune file in flash manager and flash the truck. I hope anyways..

It does the first few times, but then you get used to it. You can't brick the ECU with the software, so thats always a comfort.

Mine was only 2 years ago but it seems like yesterday. Mine was the sedan but I always wanted a hatch.

I never said my driving-style was the norm. I simply presented it in the context of toyotas shift logic learning.

I was responding to another post that a few people that complain about 04B04 is broken still doesn't mean it's the norm.
There are hundreds of tuned trucks that don't have a problem with it - one, two people, or even 20 that complain is the minority

I don't have a problem with a discussion about what the issues are, but presenting it as a ubiquitous issue is not supported.

FWIW, I bootcamped my 9 yo MacBook Pro and it works like a champ with free windows. That’s an option if you have a Mac.
