Searched the thread but maybe I missed it; if you install the Pioneer 6600 head unit with the already established panoramic view cameras that came with the truck will they work still? I hate the stock head unit but the only reason I'm holding onto it is because of the pano cameras I already have and can't seem to find one that still works with he cameras. Thanks.

I don’t know that I datalink maestro is capable of this yet. I don’t think anyone in this group has tried it yet. The unit will for sure do front and rear camera. Just not sure on panoramic. I would probably just start adding onto the system that u have. Your already has gps and CarPlay which is one of the biggest reasons a ton of us went to this stereo. If my 17 jbl setup would of had CarPlay, I would of just built into the system. I don’t think it would be worth the $1k tag in your situation. Just my opinion. Hope this helps

It helps I appreciate it. the CarPlay isn't working, I've replaced cables, had the dealer replace the port and it still is intermittent. Its been logged by Toyota and they still cannot fix it, even with completely resetting the system and phone. Its beyond annoying when I'm using navigation and it cuts out so I have to keep using my phone. 40k I figured this wouldn't be happening as much but I've searched the forums and not much is working. Even bought a new iPhone and still nothing.

Man. I think I would try to demand a new stereo. Worth a shot. I have not heard of this issue yet. It has to be an issue with the stereo itself if they have replaced cables. Super frustrating. What do they say? Try to blame your phone? Or just we don’t know? Is CarPlay wired?

First they blamed the cable and I opened a new one in front of them and it still did it. Then they tried blaming the phone but it wouldn’t work for the tech and his phone. CarPlay is wired only in the Tacoma so I don’t have any other option. Then they said it was the USB port, it was replaced, and it still repeated. Now they’re saying it’s the new update to the iPhone that is causing all the problems.

I would demand a replacement HU unless there is a firmware update available. Then I would ask for that 1st.

Yeah. Be the pain in their ass! That is complete bullshit. Wow this makes me angry for u! Would drive me absolutely crazy. Please go back and demand a new head unit. Don’t give up. They will let u walk away like nothing without fixing the issue! Please make them do this. It is a huge deal especially when this truck is so new and not leaving u very good alternatives at the moment. That head unit would be plenty bad ass with a couple of amps and subwoofers in the back!

I had no faith in OEM CarPlay. The one in my Odyssey is pretty lame. Wireless is so nice. I went with a used Tacoma fully intending to replace all the crappy parts. Sorry to hear about the troubles. Always sucks to be first model year of something new. Seems like the headlights are darn near perfect though and only $500 extra vs $1500 for the rest of us. So maybe sell that OEM head unit for good money and go Pioneer and be happy like us?

@TacoTaco-BurittoTaco check out this post. I would definitely give this dongle a shot and see if it will work for u. This would make your head unit perfect.

I’d have them take your phone and cable to try it in a different Tacoma in the lot. It’s amazing how they always blame our stuff and not Toyota stuff.

I just read a review on this wireless adapter and the connection dropped frequently for the reviewer. Worth reading some more reviews to see if it is a common complaint.

These are the types of dongles they use in the android stereo world. I would buy one off of Amazon that has good reviews and is returnable. If it works good, then awesome, if not send it back. Definitely worth a shot!

Do you lose any steering wheel controls with this?

Nope you use a Maestro RR or RR2 and retain all steering wheel controls and can even program them and change them if there is something you would rather they do. I personally kept them stock but you have options.

how does stock work as far as volume, seek, preset and phone? I got nervous with them set to none and flashed explicitly but I think I’ve never tried with all defaults. No that I gave my Germes alive again I might reflash to all default provided volume and up/down/mode work as expected.

it’s also a little tempting to swap volume and seek so up arrow becomes louder and right is forward. That might be confusing to other drivers though. Ideally that silly thing could be rotated to proper orientation.

I just programmed all the buttons to function just like they did with the factory HU. I just felt that I was used to how they all worked and it would be the easiest way to go. You could totally swap the volume and seek buttons if you want to but it would drive me nuts to not have the text on the buttons be correct lol.

The Maestro RR defaults are spot on - no changes to the setup are necessary
The Maestro RR2 defaults are empty, so you will have to choose what actions are on each button. I saved a screenshot of the map when I went from the RR to RR2, such that I mapped everything the same.

This explains some of my confusion with what I've read vs what I saw, having only owned RR2. @svermilyea you are a wealth of knowledge. I was going to re-open my dash for the 45th time and reconnect my maestro to get a screen shot of how I set it up but would love to review yours at the same time. I'll post it once I get that done. Wish there were a slot where I could just extract the maestro without removing trim (like an ashtray mount :p).

EDIT: Hold on, I wonder if I can get the maestro wired up to the factory USB port? That would be pimp...

Supposedly sometime this fall those of us with the RR2 are gong to be able to program them via Bluetooth and their phone app.

Yeah, that was my primary motivator. And to change the config of the 3 external triggers via BT mobile app, assuming I fed those to my switchpros so I could effectively re-map switchpros triggers entirely on the phone...

So, I think this little do-hickey would work to convert my in dash USB port to be a maestro flash port, along with a USB-A male to male cable to connect to the laptop...

    https://www.amazon.com/Rankie-Femal...cro+usb+to+usb+a+female&qid=1599250138&sr=8-4

    I'll give it a whirl.
