The part that sucks is the corona mitigations either permanently closed down, or have put a lot of the local breweries temporarily out of commission. Saying that when the time comes, let me know and I'll look!

Ft. Fisher today in the T4R and my dads clean 2 gen TRDOR

    20200905_101432.jpg

    Beach was SOFT today.

    Snapchat-1830120685.jpg

Our day was univentful as far as the beach driving....started to air back up and the threaded part of the valve stem literally fell apart in my hand on the right rear. Valve core was in the palm of my hand. Tried to get the core back in but there wasnt any threads left. I was dead in the water. $140 tow bill later and a trip to the only open tire shop open on Labor Day Weekend at Carolina beach.

Tire shop didnt have any stems that would work with the TPMS senser so they put in a rubber type valve stem so i could at least get it back home.

I didnt mind since they didnt charge me a dime. Will be back at discount tire first part of the week.

    20200905_204132.jpg

All in all it was a fun day. The cost of making Memories i suppose.

Looks like you had a fun time minus the valve stem issue. No spare tire for you?

Colby valves might want to add them to your tote with you list.

Yea shes got a fullsize spare but the spot where i stopped to air up wasnt condusive to change a tire nor was the ground suitable for jacking ad a tired and cranky 4yo in the mix and it gets hectic. So we made the executive decision to call for a tow and let insurance reimburse her.

Unfortunately he'd have to break the bead to get the TPMS out, or it would be destroyed/destroy the wheel, but then you might as well carry a new TPMS. I dont see him doing that on the side of the road.

Ill get a pic of the trashed valve stem in a few. To fix the issue with the colby valve and not break the bead id have to dissasemble the valve stem from the outside and let the TPMS fall to the inside.

Id put the spare on before i did that.

Ill still pick some up. Maybe they would be usefull in certain situations.

Yeah so you'll need a new sensor regardless a colby valve could of saved you that $140 tow

I *beleive* the sensor is fine. Tire shop just didnt have the correct metal stem that the sensor threads onto. Posted the pic for reference as ive never seen a valve stem break like that before.

you need a whole new sensor. I broke one very similarly on my girls GX. There just wasn’t enough thread left to really seat in the valve core.

you can get denso sensors off Amazon for cheap. I have TechStream if you need help programming a new sensor in.

The valve stem on yota sensors is a one piece design it's made as one piece and can't service separate.

Yea i see that now. Seems like a shitty desighn. This whole deal has me looking into disabling my TPMS system and running a normal valve stem of some type.

You can't disable it since 2007 they started becoming mandated by law. Only thing you could do is remove them all and put tape over the light as far as I know unless there is an aftermarket device that can shut the light off. Or you can get 2 piece sensors so that you have a separate stem than the sensor.
