The only upside to driving the prius and your tacoma east->west is that you can stick the wife in the prius. Otherwise selling is the smarter option.

Do you own the Prius outright? Even if it's close to being paid off, I'd rather keep the vehicle than get a new payment. Does cali still give you tax credit for an efficient vehicle?

Ha, well, she's flying there with my son. I'm road tripping because of the dog. I refuse to ship him in the cargo bay of a plane.

We do a partial dity, my son and her always fly and then I drive with the dog... I probably should have said that in the post. Thanks for looking out though

That's my thoughts... Also I register all my vehicles in Texas, so tax is based down there.

Both are paid off, I can cash another vehicle (I'd just get something around $15k in the used market, she doesn't really care about vehicles right now. She wants to wait and see where we have to go in 2022, then she wants a 4runner....ouch$$$ lmao)

I'd need to get a different used vehicle. Maybe a camry, rav, prius she doesn't really care. I can tow it, the farthest I've towed was California to Texas, but I did it with a v8 and it was a mr2 on a flatbed through the desert. This time I'm planning going through the mountains and twice the distance so that sort of sucks in my mind....

Don’t tow it through the mountains. That just ruins the experience.

Dealing with shipping may be easier than dealing with unknowns from a used vehicle.

It’s a good car. Keep it. Tow it. Otherwise you’ll wish you had it back. It happened to me the same way.

Shit of you're only gonna be in the area til 2022ish screw having to deal with

    Selling the car
Buying an even new to you car
    Pay the taxes on it
    Register it

Then after what? 12 to 18 months ? Find out you're going to wherever ditch it a buy a 4runner possibly?

I'm good, but you do you. Can easily tow a 2016 prius on a dolly behind your tacoma. Get a brake controller installed in your truck and done.

Check with whoever does your entitlements counseling. Unless there's something that I am not considering, you should be authorized to ship one vehicle and drive the other.

If you tow the Prius, pay close attention to the Owner's Manual. You'll have to at least get the front wheels off the ground, so using a dolly at least would be required. Might be easier to do a flat bed because the Prius is so light.

So what I did when we moved from California to Texas is I left my truck at the airport in California. Once we were moved in I flew back to California and drove it back home. It was cheaper than shipping it and I didn't want to tow it considering I was already driving a 27ft truck. The gas was cheaper than shipping it and I never wanted to sell it. I opted to ship for you since you are double my distance.
