Hell yes! At that ~$100 price point and the Talisker fondness, I'm going to Peat Monster. Only about $60, but as good as anything up to $100 and a cool story.

If the goal is to get something with some shelf presence, then Macallan 15 Fine Oak or Balvenie The Week of Peat 14 yr.

If looking to get him something with a little moxy that he probably hasn't had before, then the aforementioned Compass Box Peat Monster or try the Hedonism to really go wild. Like mentioned, the story behind Compass Box is really cool, too. Awesome bottle art to boot.

If playing it a little safer, then maybe Talisker Distiller's Edition to get a Talisker that he might not have had.

Otherwise get him Booker's. :anonymous:

with all those great ideas i would personally drop the Distiller's Edition from the list. i found it just ok,a bit underwhelming.

The 16 isn't too bad. It's peaty, but it's not Laphroaig or Ardbeg peaty. Give it a try at a bar sometime or at a steakhouse. Tough to blind buy a $100 bottle of something you may not like.

One day when we're through this dismal time and have something approaching normalcy, I'd like to have some people over and BBQ. Break open one or more of those bottles... When/if I do I'll send you some samples.

I have 2 small batch and 1 rye EHT that I got for regular retail. I also wouldn't pay more for them. Still on the lookout for a single barrel.

i just killed a bottle of Hedonism - it's legit. Someone mentioned Oban. There's a few options there; I like the 14 and Little Bay. When I finish one I buy the other and just alternate back and forth.

Or you could get him Booker's. :D

I have an open single barrel if either you or @MattJakobs want to try it? It sounds like he has. I actually have all 3 open right now, they are all very good IMO, but the single barrel is probably my favorite out of the 3.

I can’t say no to samples.
How do you like the Rye?
I’ll stay on the look out for some SiB down here for you. If I find any at retail, I’m pretty much just going to stick pile. That goes for any EHT, really

    Interesting, I rank them
    1) Rye
    2) Small Batch
    3) Single Barrel

Mind would be Rye then Small Batch. Want to get a single barrel. A sample swap might be in order...

@MattJakobs I'll grab any EHT I see at regular retail.

Tonight I’m drinking Woodford double oaked. Scored two for $60 at Costco. Real good for the price.

I’ve been crushing the bowmans all week. Super good juice for the money.

Noses are very similar. There’s a minor difference between the two but I can’t pin point what it is. The Bowman has a stronger, more pronounced nose.
Taste is surprisingly more different than I expected. I thought they’d be hard to identify from each other, but you can taste the little bit of extra proof in the Bowman - and not in a bad way. I like the finish more too, it’s got a little more on the back end.
I say they’re different, but tasting them blind - I don’t think I could identify one over the other. I think I’ll revisit them tomorrow to come out with a winner. Right now, I think it’s Bowman. But that could be just because it’s new.

I picked up 2 more bottles of bt at retail here at the beach. Lady said the bt allocations hit yesterday. I’m going hunting right now for some of the better bottles.

On a side note crushed a bottle of this bowman bro’s small batch. Amazing not only for the money but overall. I put the single barrel above blantons honestly and even eagle rare. For 32-35 bucks it’s hard to beat!
