Everyone tends to focus on what was true five years ago when it comes to monitors. It's always been that way with display tech.

 

Dude seriously! I had an old ~19" Panasonic CRT about 8 years ago that was beautiful. Top of the line monitor when it was in its prime. I hated getting rid of it, but just couldn't handle the amount of desk space it took up.

 

I had a Sony Trinitron that was the monitor in its day. Weighed so much though it actually caused my old desk to curve in one spot lol.

Why only 10 GB of memory for RTX 3080? How was that determined to be a sufficient number, when it is stagnant from the previous generation?
...if you look at Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Metro Exodus, Wolfenstein Youngblood, Gears of War 5, Borderlands 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2 running on a 3080 at 4k with Max settings (including any applicable high res texture packs) and RTX On, when the game supports it, you get in the range of 60-100fps and use anywhere from 4GB to 6GB of memory.

Extra memory is always nice to have but it would increase the price of the graphics card, so we need to find the right balance.


When the slide says RTX 3070 is equal or faster than 2080 Ti, are we talking about traditional rasterization or DLSS/RT workloads? Very important if you could clear it up, since no traditional rasterization benchmarks were shown, only RT/DLSS supporting games.

What breakthrough in tech let you guys massively jump to the 3xxx line from the 2xxx line? I knew it would be scary, but it's insane to think about how much more efficient and powerful these cards are. Can these cards handle 4k 144hz?
[Justin Walker]There were major breakthroughs in GPU architecture, process technology and memory technology to name just a few. An RTX 3080 is powerful enough to run certain games maxed out at 4k 144fps - Doom Eternal, Forza 4, Wolfenstein Youngblood to name a few. But others - Red Dead Redemption 2, Control, Borderlands 3 for example are closer to 4k 60fps with maxed out settings.

I saw that this morning. Still going to need to see reviews to believe the gains but it's a good read.

They also mentioned all of the benchmarks were done on a PCI-E 3.0 system so it should be fine. They did say though that PCI-E 4.0 will be important when SSD shader loading is a thing in a couple of years from now.

 

100%. Tbh even if these things are all they say they are I'm still likely going to wait for an EVGA B-stock sale before I pick one up.

 

So you creator people. Anyone know a way of getting premier Adobe on the low non monthly. I've got Lightroom for photos but still need premiere for editing videos

 

"Cheaped out" with the monitor. But I figured it gets me started and I'll be able to appreciate the high quality stuff more when I do upgrade.

The truth is I need to spend my money on quality items that I'll have long term right from the start. Like my keyboard, mouse, a new desk, something other than a spare kitchen chair.

I'll be back on 20hrs of OT a week come Nov, so I'll be hitting everyone up for the best black friday deals then.

btw the cpu demand on my SDR used to be about a 95% on full sample.


Even this low end ryzen 3600 has it down to 4% on the same settings. It's amazing.
Now time to buy about $200 worth of RF protection for it.

There is a student rate on Adobe products. It's over 50% off IIRC. In order to get it you need to provide a university email address and confirm that address. So if you know someone who is a student at a college or university that doesn't want their own cheap license you can ask to use their email and have them confirm it to get cheap access to Adobe products.
